Homelike adjustables : Taiga Elbrus

Hello
After reading everything i could find about adjustable razors, i gravitate towards Taiga, price wise it seems to be only slightly more expensive then Yaqi which i think is the cheaper stainless steel one.
Quality wise it seems quite decent.
Feature wise too as i prefer open comb not all have it , also it having quite a big range of adjust-ability is a bonus for me.
It has simple components and is can be disassembled completely which may be annoying but easy to take care for.

Anyway i wanted some more feedback if anyone has as the last replies were quite old, and i was wondering Taiga being adjustable but without stops seems very easy to change it, is that a problem ? can you accidentally move the wheel during shaving ?

Since the start of the war with the Ukraine, there will be very little information available on the Elbrus. There are 3-4 owners here, and hopefully they will chime in. The mechanism is the same as the Taiga, so no, barring some individual defect, it will not accidentally be changed.

Curious where you are finding one at a reasonable price. Since the war they occasionally show up but at $900+

Homelike is showing pretty much all versions of Taiga, SS & Ti and Elbrus, Ti in stock and at regular pricing so not sure where you are finding the inflated pricing. There have been a few guys in the US that have been successful in buying both Taiga and Elbrus directly from Homelike and as @Rob72 pointed out hopefully one of them will chime in here to share their info on the razors.

As an aside, you won’t find any information about the Elbrus on Homelike Shaving’s social media. They haven’t posted anything about razors for two years. They do post frequently (on Twitter, if I recall correctly) but it has all been anti-western taunts and propaganda. If this sort of thing affects your view on whether you might want to give someone your business then I suggest you take a look at it.

I am sure there are ways to get them. You cannot buy them directly from Homelike using any US, European, Japanese, or Korean financial institution (where most of us have credit cards and demand deposit accounts). If you can get funds to them outside of those institutions, then you probably can get them at the MSRP on their site (though shipping then becomes an issue). I know that some of the Kazakhstan online retails have Tiagas and Baikal-2s available but when I inquired about Elbrus was told those were "difficult" and they didn't even suggest a price. Anyway, the KZT conversion will kill you (less stable than the ruble). There was an used Elbrus on the E recently for $1000+. Luckily I got my Tiaga and Start before the hostilities started.

When I first posted, I thought the question was centered on the Elbrus. I have a Taiga, and do enjoy it. Overall, it is very straightforward- clean lines, efficient shave, unlimited adjustment means you can go from mild-to crazy depending on your urge. It is very no-nonsense, very utilitarian, very Russian.

The closest comparison (from what I see/read, as I do not own one) would be the stainless Rockwell T2. For modern razors, more commonly available, IMO, the Rex Knosul and Blackland Osprey deliver far more quality and enjoyment for your investment(e.g., paying $400USD+ for a Taiga stainless is insane, unless you're buying for "collectors' intent.").

However. @denisgsv you mention availability at a price only slightly more than a Yaqi. I would jump on that without hesitation. Yaqi is generally good, but qc IME has been spotty(so I haven't been back).

so well yaqi i saw going for 125 with discount or 135 was it not, without its 175
Taiga on website is 190 not so bad, but then shipping so 220 230 but still doable. The thing is if u use a intermediary there is a fee obviously for the third party and more risk, to be somewhat assured i would use paypal but then for sure intermediary would want me to pay the fee of paypal on top of his if i were to use for goods payment selection and not friends and family .... I think it would end up in 260 270 euros, as i live in Europe, not too bad overall.

The thing is i kinda went on a shopping spree still waiting for my bohemia from yaqi and here i go buying a taiga .... dont wana push this too hard.

On the other hand it seems like taiga has best resseling value as i saw a lot of wtb post both here and on reddit shave bazaar ... But many are from US .... so thats basically my chain of thoughts

I just checked for it. Their account is on Facebook. Search for “HomeLike Shaving”. It is still there, and still only propaganda posts. You have to look back two years to see the last razor posts.

I do not want to post a link to it, for reasons you’ll understand. I do not want to aid or support this person in any way.

I dont wana go full mode politics but i have friends coworkers and relatives who are waaay on the other side of this topic, and i need to tolerate their point of view.
And i have been watching this channel for days and seems quite chill and had zero and i mean zero references to ongoing situation and i watched many hours of it .
I read their telegram and there also is chill. So, so far thats not enough proof.

I get that. At 270 euro, I would say that's pushing the value limit pretty hard, but obviously I have no idea how US-made Blackland and Rex end up on European retail, VAT, etc.. I see that Connaught Shaving in the UK has reasonable pricing on Asylum products, but they are a dealer, so...

I would very much consider a rex, but they dont have open combs, and yea there is vat tax customs etc from US
UK is also not very good anymore :D not in EU

That Facebook account is definitely HomeLike Shaving. I used to follow it before the war, when the page was only used to promote their razors, so I know it is him. Now the page is categorised as ‘personal’ and not their business account, but the contact email is still the same and their business website link is listed. It’s still him, but now you see his political posts, not razors. The razor stuff is still there if you scroll back far enough.

I remember too when the invasion happened and sanctions came into force he posted some pretty nasty stuff across all his social media and elsewhere, so I know where he stands on all this and it is no surprise to see what he posts on Facebook now.

Anyway, if you are only interested in razors, he makes razors. If his politics bothers you then it is better that you are aware of it.

There are plenty of better razors, by the way.

All I know was a couple guys from this forum and another have purchased razors from Homelike in the past year but know nothing other than they said it was easier than you would think to get one purchased and shipped here to the US...

Hopefully they'll jump in. I'd love to get an Elbrus, preferably a used one that doesn't directly support the owner, but not at the prices I see.

Personally, I haven't bought anything directly from their website, but others who did told me of a method how to do it. The ''problem'' is, that one must contact a third person to assist you with the purchase (payment and shipping). Sadly, I cannot share any details, because I'm sure that goes against the forum rules and besides, I cannot give you any guarantees that it works either.

The other options are: buying one from someone else or having a friend/family member who lives in Russia or close to it to help you get one.
