:001_tt2:I grew up on peanut butter ! Toast w Pnutbutter /jelly,honey,solo. I love it. Where i live it's not available except for some australian stuff with weird ingredients. I've tried making my own ,roasting the peanuts then using cheap food processors or blenders. They don't work very well and usually the motors burn out. The only commercial unit i've found costs around $3500.usd I'm sure its a good machine but i'll pass. Does anyone have a more reasonable solution?thanks:001_tt2:

I have an older Vita-Mix (they last forever so a couple of hundred $ or less will get you a monster; mine is a '4000' and I think I paid $150 for it on eBay 4 or 5 years ago) and while I haven't made peanut butter I've made my own Nutella with hazelnuts and cocoa. It doesn't quite get as smooth as the commercial stuff (I don't think anything less than some kind of industrial roller mill could) but it's still really good.

Thanks TT, i kinda figured a vitamix would do the job. Guess i'l bite and shell out for a VM, like you say they last forever.l

Well if you have any friends or family in a country where peanutbutter is just peanuts... maybe they could mail you some? My friend's daughter went to study in Ireland, had to send her a case of Kraft Dinner once a month.

+1. I send a case of tony chachere's seasoning to family in Jakarta once a year.

Another idea is to buy old blenders. No idea how hard they are to find in Laos, but they are easy to find at garage sales in the US. I bought an Oster from the 70s that works better than most reasonably priced modern blenders, and it cost me $5. I like to make my own sunbutter (from sunflower seeds) because it is MUCH cheaper than the store bought stuff. I've had it at least 5 years, so even if it dies tomorrow I'll feel like I got my money's worth.

I have one of those magic bullet blenders that they sell on tv. I bought it at target for like $20. I like to use it to make peanut butter. I have had it for about 5 years now and have never had a problem with it. Its also great for making smoothies and salsa.
