What's new

Hey, what happened to Bluebirds?

Does anyone know whether Bluebirds are still made? They are not my favorites, but they were discussed on the boards from time to time. Now, they seem to have quickly receded into the abyss of time.

Thanks.

Funny, i just bought 10 to give them a try agin.
It's been so long, I can't remember if I Like them or not.

You're right, no one talks about them anymore.

Hey, I talk about them all the time! I think they're great. As sharp as a Japanese surname, and as smooth as Don Johnson in a pastel cotton t-shirt. Recently purchased 600.

There is a seller on Ebay called "ntguy_s", from whom I bought a sample pack that included two Blue Birds. He sells the blades and seems to have a lot of them, since he includes them as bonuses with the other shaving related items he sells.

Yeah, we don't hear about them as much as we used to, that's for sure. Personally, I like them. They're a good value. Some folks find them pretty rough, and I think that there's a bunch of other folks who now regard them in the same place as derbys. Could be that they have become part of the background. I still have a hatful of them... probably too many. I've been thinking recently about paring down my blade stash (the lid doesn't stay on my bin anymore) and the bluebirds were on my list of blades to reduce. I've got so many other blades that I like better, and so many other blades to try.

I just tried some a couple weeks ago, and was surprised. For me, they aren't smooth. There is a lot of "feedback" from the blade, feels like I could feel every whisker being cut, and I expected that I wasn't getting a close shave. The feel of the blade was fooling me. The shave was close for three shaves and I feel like I could have gotten a fourth but, for 15 cents a blade, why push it? So, I tried a fresh one in my bulbous-handle DE89, my heaviest razor. The weight of the razor killed the feedback from the blade and the shave quality was very good all around. I have 100 of them in my locker now. Good blades, I think. They feel very much like the Souplex, which is also very durable and sharp, but not as smooth as some for me.
