Herban Cowboy

I was in whole foods market checking out there shaving section. I was pleasantly surprised to find they carry a puck of shaving soap called Herban Cowboy! It's supposed to be a vegan natural shaving soap, I'm wondering if anyone has tried this soap in the past? It was about 5 bucks so I picked up a puck, has a nice strong smell looking forward to trying. The only 2 soaps I have tried are Williams Shave Soap and my second puck was VanderHagen. I like both of those, but I know I will have to move on to buying better soap. Hopefully Herban Cowboy will be a nice soap. Plus it is carried locally! That is even better.

Along with Caswell Massey, Urban Cowboy is generally considered to be one of the worst products on the market. I wouldn't expect to get anything approaching a usable lather out of it.

I have a puck of it. I purchased it and a tiny little brush while travelling a few weeks back. The brush was tiny and didn't produce much lather. I haven't used the puck since and don't have high hopes for it, but time will tell.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I had a puck of it once. It didn't go over well at all. Getting a lather out of it was near impossible.

Herban Cowboy gets almost as much love around here as Colonel Conk lime, but not quite.

Col Conk lime is miles ahead of Herban Cowboy. I picked up a puck about a year ago, the same time I discovered KMF creams, from Whole Foods. The KMF creams are great, the Herban Cowboy got turned into hand soap. I do like the scent though.

Really? I have a small tub of Colonel Conk lime. Now, it smells like Gatorade, but it seems to lather fine.

Personally I have nothing against the Colonel Conk lime, and enjoyed it enough to pass a partial puck on to a friend starting out in traditional shaving. I would buy more Col. Conk lime.

I foolishly based my earlier statement on a thread a while back, I believe it was something like worst soaps ever, that had people claiming the Conk lime smelled bad, wouldn't lather, and caused chemical burns. Although it's a product that I like, enough people chimed in with complaints that I thought I was in the minority. Herban Cowboy seemed to be the only product that garnered more complaints.

Wow! Thanks for all the comments, I started to use the soap before reading any of the comments. I tried to whip up some great lather and by the time I shave 1/4 of my face the lather had disappeared! I thought maybe it was my technique, the williams and Vanderhagen lathered up quite nicely. Any suggestions on where to go next?

ANYTHING else, seriously.
