Help with English Fern

Ok, I know I have the crappy new formulation, but I can't just throw it away, and it's not worth trying to send it back to Penhaligons. What can I do to make the lather better? It's bubbly and evaporates, but I FREAKIN' LOVE FERN.

Add glycerin? Buy an unscented soap and mill them together? HELP!

Just get an unscented cream that you like and do a superlather with them. That should give you better performance with the English Fern scent.

For the amount of money that stuff costs I would seriously look into getting a refund. Sure it's a hassle for you but this is principle! Hopefully Penhaligon's will deliver on the customer service to make this right for you. Good luck!

Right on, and if enough people do this, the might consider re-reformulating it back to its original glory.

It really is THAT bad, huh?

I can't believe such an esteemed brand would let something like that get past QC.

In a word, "yes." I have tried dozens of soaps. The new formulation by Penhaligon's is the worst soap I have used. It seems incapable of maintaining a usable lather. You might as well shave with a $1 bath soap.

I agree....the new EF is a shadow of its former (tallow based) self. The lather is "airy," and it takes a lot of work just to get it to a usable state. Unacceptable given its price point.

Anyone think the makers of this formerly great soap are reading this? I seem to remember reading about Trumpers doing the same thing and they still suffer from what they did to their old formula? I do not know what I will do when my 2 pucks runs out!!:mad3:

Maybe they would listen to a forum with 30,000 members? Anyone know where we could find 30,000 folks that would demand a soap that is worth the $65 they charge? :001_rolle

I had a problem like that with the new formula Blenheim Bouquet. I found a puck of AoS unscented and grated them together with a Zyliss cheese grater. Now I have a huge puck that smells fantastic and the lather is teriffic. Problem solved.

If it's bubbly, then chances are you are using too much water. My advice is to dial down the water added...really down. You can always add more glycerin, which may help.

Adding unscented creme is a great way to bring out the essence of soaps/cremes.

Actually, I think most people think Trumper new formulation is great and they got it right. I have a puck of new formulation coconut and it is great. I also have DR Harris with tallow and it is amazing, but not more amazing than the Trumper sans tallow.

Penhaligon's out to give Trumper a call and fix their former masterpiece.

UPDATE I decided that the most responsible thing to do is to send it back with a curt note of displeasure. Take that, Penhaligon's!

The Edinburgh Pen's outlet doesn't even offer the EF shaving soap, just the Blenheim soap and the full line of creams. I wonder if they've had complaints. Wouldn't surprise me at all! I should've asked, I was in there today. Silly of me. I actually meant to, also... just slipped my mind.

I hope the note said something about putting some tallow back in the soaps. And I like your decision.
