So what do you guys think I should go with?

Brushes are a very individual thing and you will get a lot of different opinions. You have to decide for yourself. The brush I would recommend is not among your choices. Buy the one you like the most. You'll probably buy more than one before it's over until you find your ultimate.

Of the three you mention I feel that the Rooney 3/1 would be best for both soaps and creams. The Shavemac would be my second choice but I'd get a 50 mm loft instead.

Of the three that you mention, I would get the Rooney 3/1. The shorter loft should work a little better for soaps. I would, however, consider a $15 Omega boar for the really hard soaps. All of your options are Super/Finest/Silvertip and may be a bit floppy for digging away at a triple milled English or French soap.

I really like the Rooney 3/1 as a great all-around brush. The Rooney's will be a bit more firm than the Shavemac which I personally prefer when using soaps. However, any of your options would work well.

I have a Rooney 3/1 and a Shavemac D01 (not sure how much different Finest is from D01).

I really like both brushes and you can't go wrong with either. I am glad I have both, however, if I had to choose only one, now that I have tried both, I would keep the Shavemac. It's firm (lots of backbone) like the Rooney but a bit softer feeling.

I say get the Shavemac. It will be a better all around brush (although the other two choices are good ones, too!). I should mention that you can get a custom made Shavemac in Finest for about the same price as the one you have pictured in the OP. Then you can choose whatever handle you like, and I would go with a 45mm to 50mm loft for Finest hair. That's just what I prefer, though.

I have a Rooney 3/1 and a Shavemac D01 (not sure how much different Finest is from D01)...

i've never owned a shavemac finest but I prefer rooneys to them very much. The rooney is stiff and provides that facial massage that I love. the shavemac is softer.

I've owned both the 2/1 and 3/1 and must say that, again, in my opinion, they are basically the same brush with different handles. the 2mm difference in loft does not translate to different performance. both are superb with cream or soap. i would say, get the handle you like more.
