Help me place a value on this pen?

***If this doesn't belong here, please let me know.

Years ago I was given a fancy pen by an old business partner. I'm honestly not a fancy pen kind of guy, so I'm trying to get a rough value on it so I know what to aim for in trade value.

The pen is a Porsche Design TecFlex P3110 Steel and Gold Rollerball Pen.

It was carried by the original owner in his pocket, and I have had it in a box for the better part of 10 years. It has some plating issues on the cap, as I suppose would be expected from a pen carried in a pocket all the time. The rest of the pen seems to be in great shape. Still writes like a charm, very fancy, tons of bells and whistles for a pen, and it weighs a freakin' ton! I know this cost somewhere around $260 new back then (he liked to brag), but I don't expect it's worth near that with the plating issues.

Here's a site that had a review as well as a link to where you can buy a new one:

Mind giving me a very rough idea on value, based solely on some rough camera phone pictures? I'm not holding anybody to it, I just want to get a ballpark idea of what to value it at so I don't offend any potential trade interests.

The cap has very tiny bubbling all around it. In this one area it looks like some plating has come off. Maybe the pen just needs a good buffing, and that's just crud on the outside, but it really looks to me like slight plating loss.

I definitely wouldn't call it a display piece, but it is a very nice pen that would be a great carry piece.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and again...if this isn't appropriate here just let me know and I'll have it removed.

The value really is subjective, to pen guys like around here, i wouldnt think to many if anyone would pay very much if anything for it, just because its a rollarball....

The weave and proche design thing has a target market kind of all on its own, i can tell you the flaws on your pen from a brand new one would probably bring the pens value down quite a bit from its original purchase price, maybe $100 american dollars, but really its worth exactly how much you are willing to spend on getting one, or how much you would have to get back to part with it, as long as someone out there was willing to pay that much for it

its a bit of an oddball, not really limited, and a new product, so not a collectors item, which means someone who would want one would need enough of a deal on yours to not justify spending money on a new one that could easily be had

probably not exactly what you were looking for but thats about the best i could give you on an answer, maybe hit up ebay see what people are asking for them, and how much they are actually selling for

I think the standard phraseology would be something like:
"put it up for auction and find out"
Or
"try to sell it for what you think it is worth, and if it sells, you know someone thought it was worth at least that much to them"
Or
"no appraisals are done in these fora"
Or
"Find one on ebay and see what it goes for"

Maybe someone can PM you an answer? Regardless, Good luck, looks pretty cool to me!

Thanks syngent. That's pretty much exactly what I needed / expected. I just don't know anything about pens in general, so I didn't know where to start. Much appreciated.
