Help me choose my next brush

Hello all,

Back in January I bought a $15 Tweezerman pure badger brush after using a boar brush for several years. I have no problems with the Tweezerman, but I feel like I'm ready to step up to a better brush. This most likely means going from a pure to a best badger brush, although I'd consider a synthetic brush, as well. I'd like to spend less than $50 on my next brush.

How about some recommendations? I currently make lather with shaving cream in a bowl, although I might try soap at some point.

I'm starting to think that this might be the onset of SBAD, and that I should just accept it.

Thanks,

Mike

I'll try to give some opinions of what might be good. I'm new though and haven't given all of my brushes adequate time to see how they perform, plus my technique is no where near perfect yet. :blushing:

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=95015 I bought the 20mm Finest with acrylic jade handle a little while back. I've used it about 2 times so far. Don't remember having hair loss yet. One thing about my brush is I swear this is no 20mm in size!

I put it next to my Shavemac 177 and the former still looks a bit bigger, but my Shavemac has only seen a few more shaves than the one from Tony at Penworks. I have a EJ BBB also and the brush I feel compares to it very favorably. It might be a little floppier, but not by much. I've had an easy time with it for both shaves I've used it with, and I've used soap and cream. I like the handle on this brush much better as well. Fits nicely into my hand, and to boot, it's got a bit more flare to it! :w00t:

I think others would definitely recommend one of those brushes from the link I provided, and in all honesty, I'd recommend an EJ BBB brush as well! I'm going to let this brush be my travel brush. Then there are always boar brushes again, but I'll leave that to others to recommend. I'm still in the camp of not sure about them.

I will say though from the one that I have it isn't harsh at all on my skin the one that I bought, a Semogue 2000 brush, and I consider myself to be very sensitive. I hope I was able to help a bit, and I'll continue to try if you have any other questions! Good luck in your journey in finding a new brush! And I will say it's easy to get hit with SBAD... I have to stop currently as I'm getting married soon, but I think I might just start appreciating boar brushes more! :001_rolle

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all of your advice. I just acquired a Savile Row 3120 silvertip badger brush from a fellow B&B member (thanks, rsp1202!). Bushranger, I am sure this is quite similar to the SR 3122 that you recommended (perhaps a bit smaller?).

I got a good used silvertip brush for about what I was prepared to pay for a new best badger brush.
