Help me choose my first vintage Gillette

Currently have two razors: the usual DE89 (love it) and a Razorock TTO (little too aggressive for my tastes). I did just pick up a 1951 Super Speed to give to me Dad as a birthday present this weekend, and after testing it out (of course I had to make sure it works :wink2:), I would like to get one of my own.

But what do I go for? Do I try for my birth year, 1977? I've been looking on Ebay for a couple weeks, and haven't seen any at all. I also suspect there is probably less to choose from in that year, anyway. If I just went for a Super Speed, what's the best year to try for? If I went the adjustable route, what should I try to get? I'm willing to spend the money for a good razor, up to about $100.

1977 will give you 3 choices. Black handle super speed. Super Adjustable 3 piece Tech.

X is the letter code

numbers 1 though 4 are the quarters so determine what quarter of the year you were born in and look for an X - ___

So what quarter? 1, 2, 3, 4 ?

I would recommend a Fat Handle Tech. Their simple razors but they shave great (plus their on the milder side, which you might like considering your experience with the Razorock). You really can't go wrong with a Fatboy either!

Any of the adjustables, or a long comb new. You shouldn't need to spend anywhere near your budget, but check to see what Krona Kruiser has available replated and ready to go.
