What's new

Help IDing the razor that just gutted my face and left me to bleed out in the gutter.

I picked this up from the antique store today because of my new-found love for SEs. I've had nothing but BBS shaves from them so far... until tonight.

This thing tortured my face with wild abandon and left me mopping up blood in the shave den. I think, in fact, that I'll never use it again.

So, what's it called? Is it known to be aggressive? Here's a pic (not mine):

Mild, huh?

Well that ain't what my face is sayin' right now. I can't imagine what I did wrong on my end, but I guess there's always the possibility. My lather was great, but I didn't shower first. I'm usually able to get a good shave without showering first, though. I changed blades halfway through the shave because I felt a lot of pulling, and I think I did most of my damage after the change. Maybe my face doesn't like brand new blades...

i'm betting you used too much angle, the safety bar gems are extremely mild, but far less forgiving when you raise the lid off of your face. My gbar (same head, brass handle) destroys my face when i use it with the angles that i'm used to in my micromatic OC and 1912/1914/1924

This would make sense, being that the only other SE experience I have is with the 1912. I guess I just thought an SE shave was an SE shave, and I didn't really try to evaluate how/if I should do things differently with the Featherweight.

I'm gonna be sporting a red, irritated neck for the next few days. Bummer. But I think you've talked me into trying the Featherweight again in the future.

I see in another thread that you've acquired a 1924 "tilt-nose", my 2nd favorite SE  it's a tick more aggressive than the 1912's, and a bit less forgiving. IMO it would be a good stepping stone between the 1912 and the featherweight, to instill proper angle. Give it a shot before going back to the featherweight
