Help identifying 2 rhodium plated British Aristocrats

I've got several rhodium-plated Aristocrats that appear to be fraternal twins. They are very similar but the plate under the head (is there a technical name for that plate?) is different between the 2 razors. Everything else looks identical, even though the photos make it seem like there may be differences in the knurling, the handles look the same. But obviously they are 2 different razors.

Any insight would be appreciated -- providing accurate names offers value to these excellent vintage razors.

I believe the one with the diamond base plate is a No. 66 (or No. 22 depending on the case), and the flat base plate is a No. 16.

Yep, that's correct.........

Enjoy them, #16 is my everyday go to..............

So a #66 and #22 are identical except for the case? And the #16 is identical except for the plate under the head? Really like fraternal twins...

Any comments on the comparable shaving experience?

Thanks.

I like my #16 over any of my other razors, but part of that might be partly psychological because it's just so shiney and pretty and I am still a relative newbie.

That being said the only other Aristocrat I've got is a #21, so can't give you a proper direct comparison.

The #22/66 is around 73g vs the #16 is around 80g. The solid plate versus the silo is what makes the difference in weight. So from the definition of aggressiveness the #16 should be more aggressive.

Dunno if that helps you any :001_smile

Fidgit is exactly right on this! The solid brass plate head on the 16 is heavier than the diamond stamped head. I like the 16 much more than the 66 for this reason. I may be mistaken but I believe the handle on the 16 is a bit thicker than the 22/66 as well. No doubt all great razors, which one to keep? or perhaps both?

Does Achim know the date of manufacture for these 2 razors -- #16 and #66? And is there nothing in the numbering that relates to the year? Seems like the #15 (open comb) was made much earlier than than the #16 which so closely resembles the #66! What were they thinking? And when?

Thanks.

The #16 and #22 comes 1949. The first Ad from #66 (same razor like #22) that I know is from 1953. We have a old thread from Arik about Pat. numbers and date from british razors. But I´m just on work and can´t find him.

edit: now I´m at home. Here is the link:
