Help Identify

I'm a wet shaving newbie but I use DE's. I have a buddy at work who heard me talking about old razors and brought in his grandfather's straight. I can't tell him anything about it but I thought you guys might be able to?

It's has a green and yellow faux marble handle with the "Silver Steel" on it. The blade itself also has Silver Steel and an almost heart shaped logo that might be a crown? Near the pivot point on the blade it has stamped into the steel: 123 GARANTIE SOLINGEN

What can you tell me about it? I'm pretty sure he's not looking to get rid of it.. wants it for family history reasons and would just like to know more about it.

(Sorry for the photo quality.. cell phone was only camera available).

I'm no expert, but to my knowledge Silver Steel is a High Carbon Steel from Sheffield England, and that bit about Solingen make me think that this is where the razor was ground and actually turned into a razor. Should be a good shaver as long as the edge is in good shape
