Help deciding on a new camera

Hey guys. Well As you can probably tell from most of my pictures on here my camera isn't the best in the world. It's old and outdated like most of the technology in the world. I am looking to upgrade and get myself a decent camera. I am looking for something that can focus nicely on close-ups, has a about 10 mega pixels maybe (my current is 3.2  so anything is better than that), and is fairly cheap. Any help and input would be appreciated.

it's an SD800 IS

only 7.1 mp, but a nice macro setting - and can be picked up for maybe a couple hundred used

other than it - any of the canon digital elphs are pretty decent in my opinion

I took your advice on the Canons. I've been browsing through for around half hour. This seems pretty good an in my price range. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...&fcategoryid=183&modelid=18155#ModelDetailAct
What do you guys think? I read some reviews and everyone seems to like the macro settings which is what I was looking for since my current camera cannot dot hat.

i honestly don't see how you could go wrong with that - and it's available for $112 on amazon - another nice thing is that it uses regular aa batteries - which is nice - my sd800 uses an odd little rechargable, and when it went dead last weekend in st. louis at forest park, i was out of a camera for the day

Thanks for the heads up about Amazon. I'll go check it out. I like the regular battery feature too because I am always having to change the batteries in my camera. Good thing I bought a 4 pack of Rechargeable! Thanks for your help.

Before you buy one, go to Best Buy or your favorite electronics store and handle the models you're interested in--make sure that they fit your hand and you can reach the buttons easily.

that's excellent advice

one thing about the models that use aa batteries is that they're generally a little heftier

Yeah, I should have mentioned that when you do go to the store, make sure that the cameras have their batteries. A pretty significant fraction of the working camera's weight can be from the batteries.

I'm not too worried about weight since what I have now probably weighs about 2x's what modern ones weigh. Thanks for the advice on handling them. I was gunna stop by a place, but I did see it online for cheaper. Before I order I'll go check it out.

They are a pleasure to work with.

Also the Panasonic Lumix, they got Leica lenses.

I also recommend one of Canon Digital elphs. They have Lithium-Ion battery which is very good, stays charged for a very long time. And the photo quality is very good for such small camera.

Hi.

I have a Cannon G7 and is and outstanding camera. But me advice is to check all the reviews in Amazon. They could give you lots of information, but, more than that, the felling and the oppinions of people like us, consumers that maybe don't have all the knowledge in the camera world.

Luck !

panasonic lx-3 or Fujifilm FinePix F200 EXR. get a camera that shoots in widescreen, i know the pana does as i have one, i think the f200 exr does too? two excellent pocketable camera's with great images!

I have a Cannon Powershot SD1000 that takes awesome pics, especially with moving shots. I purchased it a couple of years ago before going to WDW. We got great action pics on all of the rides. We had tried a few different cameras from Walmart and Target before deciding on it. I'd also try doing this. Most stores will accept a return if you take it back within 30 days.

The newer version is the SD1100.
