Help- anyone ever hear about Oxley Liverpool razors?

Hi,

Any help would be very much appreciated. I picked this up in my recent travels. It is an old English wedge blade with the tang reading: I. Oxley Liverpool and the other side blank. The tail is rather short.

The razor is in good shape with nice horn scales and a metal wedge. The blade is hefty and measures 11/16" at the toe and 5/8" at the heel. I am interested in an estimate of age, quality of maker, any special honing advice, etc.

This doesn't look like a wedge but It might be...

I don't have any info but it should be honed and used. Looks nice!

Hi - this is almost certainly a retailer's razor - Oxleys probably had these made by any one of the Sheffield makers, it was quite common and you see a good number of the like. I would date it around 1880 - 1890 and would hazard a guess that it's a quarter grind rather than a wedge. Nide piece though in good condition, get it honed up and use it!

Thanks very much for the help. I suspected possibly a Sheffield made blade. The grind is heavy; here is a picture of the blade end. It also seems heavier than other razors I have that are similarly sized.

Isaac Oxley was a Liverpool cutler, this wouldn't be a retailer's razor. 8 years too late with this info but I thought I'd put it out there (I have an I Oxley wedge too). He died in 1909 and his business was based in St John's Lane and Manchester Street, Liverpool.
