Heinrich Thater Brush?

I just ordered a chubby 2 in "ivory",and should receive it in a week..I chose it not just for its beauty, but all the great recommendations online, especially from straight razor users....the price from thedifferentscent.com was fair for a luxurious brush as this one,,however the shipping is ONLY by DHL ,and very very expensive..even worse , all manufacturers warranties are deemed null and void for all american shipments.a big BIG minus...I feel like I am taking a huge gamble, but I am leaning towards the fine reputation of thater..I will post another thread when I have shaved 5 times...

Malocchio, the brush looks beautiful. What is the size of the loft and knot diameter?

the total height is 101mm and ringmass (knot) 24mm ,which is my favorite size...no other specs are given, but I really love the shape of both the handle and the badger.the 24mm knot looks like it is fully packed,,,we shall see soon !

For those interested in these brushes, they are being offered in the States by SRD. Buying from them would probably be safer, cheaper, and easier than from the European vendors if you live in the States. This is no knock on the European vendors. I really think The Different Scent is a nice shop from what I have read and seen.

I ordered, received, but have not tested a 24mm Thater brush in olive handle. Will do the testing very soon.

But overall, I was very impressed by the quality...very soft bristles...Has good backbone and is dense. I wanted something that would compare to my 25mm Shavemac D01...And I think this thing will not disappoint.

I had a post not too long ago, here.

Cheers,
Robert

Has anyone owned/used a Heinrich Thater brush? If so what is your opinion of these?

Thanks

By far my favorite brush is my Thäter. It's got the softest bristle tips the face that I own, but isn't floppy at all. It has surprisingly good backbone and is currently my favorite face latherer.

If my shave den was vaporized by space pirates, it'd be the first brush I buy.

These are some nicelooking brushes on SRD. How do their finest silver tips compare to other brands? some of them look like they are quite lofty & the lofts are not disclosed. Can anyone advise?

I ordered mine from the same source. Actually it's not shipped via DHL. They just take it to the post office and its shipped just about the slowest means possible. It took me almost 3 weeks to get mine and the package looked like it had been through a war zone. Once it leaves Germany there is no tracking.

I love these brushes, the knot on my "Chubby II" is extrememly dense. Denser than a simposon Duke and a shorter loft and soft tips the feeling of a pillow-y cloud of lather.

Hi Josh...do you have a simpsons brush similar/identical in knot size and loft...trying to determine what size these thaters run...how does the chubby II compare to lets say a simpsons chubby ch1?

Before you buy one of these, check out Shavemacs site. Very similar/identical brushes being sold (I won't speculate as to who makes them) - check where you can get the best deal from.

Here you go, Sameer.
(L-R) CH1 super, 24mm Thater (Chubby 2 - loft on mine is 52mm), DO1 Shavemac (23mm knot, 50mm loft), Silvertip Shavemac (23mm, 60mm loft).

Bear in mind that the Somerset CH1 is slightly larger than the current CH1.

And from above:

(Top) Thater, 60mm Shavemac
(Bottom) Simpsons CH1, DO1

I took these photos when the Thater first arrived, meaning to post a review once I have used it more. Moreover, what I wanted to show was that the Thater knot does not look to be anywhere close to the Shavemacs. One Thater dealer (here on B&B) commented that Shavemac may supply some handles for Thater, and that may account for the similar handled brushes on the Shavemac site (the Thater 4125 model in particular) but once you have the brushes in your hand, it is quite obvious that they are different. Moreso when you use them.

+1, I agree with Ray, there may be a similar handle style that the 2 company's share. however there's no question in my mind that Thater and Shavemac brushes are completely different.

I've had a shavemac, but it wasn't the D01 and there's no question that the Thater is denser, softer and a better brush IMHO.

I just went to the website and looked at these brushes. They seem like a great value from what RayG says. "Heinrich L. Thater Series 49125/1 24mm Finest Badger Silver Tip" ...is this the same quality of Finest as Rooney? Also, there is a 26mm knot for about the same price as the 24 and with the stiffness and density that must be a great brush.

the email verification I received from faust stated the package was shipped with dhl,and I have the tracking #...I ordered a second, smaller muhle brush and a small bottle of ballistol, which does not add up to much weight, yet the dhl charge was 33 euros !! that's a lot of dough!

No. The Rooney Finest is totally different. The shafts are thicker making the brush stiffer. The tips are soft but with a slight scritch.

The Thater has very very soft tips. The knot is dense, and has backbone, but I would not call it scrubby. Still very good facelatherer, at least in the size I have.

In terms of backbone, I would say, less than the DO1 or Simpsons Chubby, more than the usual shavemac silvertip, with tips softer than all of them.

I am not knocking them, just stating facts for those thinking of a nice thater...I did want to order from srd ,I LIKE warranties ! but srd has a limited selection of thater, and the ivory handles looked best to me with a bulb of white beaver on top...that was the clincher
