What's new

Have you ever binned a blade mid-shave?

Well I've never thrown away a blade and grabbed another. I have shaved with a blade once, felt irritated, and tossed it the next day, never during the shave though.

Yesterday I prepped and shaved with a 7am (the swedish ones, not the 7 o'clocks that are well-rated, these have poor ratings). I thought if I do everything else right, I should be able to get a decent shave out of this no matter what. I got a shave out of the 7am, I tossed it after the shave, it's a bit dull and not for me, but it was usable, if I was stuck with only those I could use them.

Today I did the exact same prep, not one change, and I got to these "Crown" blades, they came with my Merkur 34C and never got to trying them out, but I actually read better reviews of these than the 7am, so I was not biased while starting these, thought they'd be nice. I shaved my cheeks and upper lip and I was just on fire. I have never stopped in middle of a shave (especially that quick) and realized how harsh a blade was. I tried 7 o'clock greens and they're harsh, but not stop during the shave and squirm in pain harsh....
Anyways, I stopped right there, swapped to an Astra that I know it consistent, and my neck is fine. The rest of the shave went fine, I'm actually really glad that I didn't shave anymore with the Crowns as my face is still hurting a bit and I only did one small WTG pass...

OUCH! I've yet to do that. I just tough it out and throw it to trash when it's done. I never push more than 4 shaves per blade but if it's not to my liking by the third shave, it's gone.

Thinking about it now, I'm wondering if stropping it would help. But then it also didn't have wax paper and came loose with the Merkur razor, so maybe shaking around in a box could have attributed to it? I don't know, the weird part is too is that if it was technique the Astra should have burned too, very weird. Maybe I should strop one and try, it just burns too much for my sensitive skin!

Quite a few times. I've done it with a Derby, a SuperMax, and a Rapira. I've also done it with quite a few SE Blades as well.

I should have yesterday.

I put a brand new Treet Classic in, and after pass one, I was in trouble. Pushed on through pass two, and am seriously regretting it today.

When trying a new blade, a couple of times. The ones that jump to mind are Treet Classics. My biggest mistake was taking a 1.5 passes before realizing I was turning my face into hamburger. I did the same things with Derbys, but tried another one later since they are so well rated.

When using a blade that is ready to be tossed, only a few times, but I would do so a lot more often if I was smart.

Yeah I toss mine out early and don't stretch them out much, but when they come shaving horribly out of the paper I wonder who can take that kind of punishment!

as soon as a blade doesn't feel good, i toss it. sometimes that moment comes right at the beginning of a shave, sometimes it's in the middle. sometimes it's after 1 shave on the blade, sometimes 3, sometimes 8.

I toss them all the time. As soon as I feel it pulling or a little rough I go to a new blade. At the cheap price of blades, there is no reason to suffer through a bad shave.!!!!

Yes I have. Any time something does not feel right. I will not even try one more swipe. I am sure I have tossed out some that were just fine but once I start getting a bad vibe that's it. Just remember how cheap they are. Cookie

yes, more times than I can count. Having trouble with doing this? Last time I checked, a blade was at max worth 34 cents if a feather, what is your face worth? Seriously toss it and move on, I think bad blades occur more than we would like to think. one bad tug or strange catch, in the bin it goes even if new.

Makes me think my technique is off, but somehow this blade just seems like complete crap somehow. It wasn't the worst in the world, but I also barely shaved with it, but it was burning most of the day from one easy pass. Really weird, first blade that's ever done that to me too, and I've been trying a bunch.
