Has anyone ever restored a metal shave box container?

I have these that I'd like to restore. The inside of these containers are shot. Just curious is anyone has done a project like this and how they went about completing it.

Have never done it, but will do some guessing. I would guess that under the cloth (velvet I assume) there is some sort of a "jig" which holds the shape/form of the interior arrangement. I would guess that the velvet could be removed and replaced by piecing new cloth in using fabric craft glue to hold it. I am also guessing that any process would pretty much wreck authenticity if that is important to you or any future buyer.
