Hart Owners?

There's a Hart in my future, and I've been reading as much information as i can find on them.
I read somewhere that one can tell the difference between a TV artisan razor and a BG... Not that one is better or worse, but just a subtle difference.
I'd like to know the minor subleties before I buy, so i can specify an artisan..

Does anyone have any thoughts or input?

They look like lovely razors. I haven't heard about the two different artists but I'm intrigued to find out. I'm stopping by Classic Shaving on my way to see family in a few weeks and will take a look at that. Some one has a 7 day set but cant remember who maybe they'll catch your question and see who they have.

Thanks, Mark...

I recall seeing the 7 day set... Laser engraved by Ray. Very impressive!

I think I questioned the owner, and he responded that they were all TV razors...

That 7 day set would be mine :) and yes, they are all TV, so I can't give a direct comparison, sorry. Each one of mine has very slight variance from one to the next that can probably only be noticed by putting them side by side for whatever that's worth.

I do remember from looking through the HartSteel site that BG blades had what appeared to be a narrower tang and more rounded monkey tail shoulders, but without one in hand, that was just my impression from looking at pictures.

Looking at the Hart site, I see they have added various species of real wood for scales..

I still think I'll stick with plastic, although the scales are so easy to change out, I'm not sure yet...

All those discussions on Hart razors and no pictures...:001_rolle

I will be going by Classic Shaving in then morning to check out these beauties. I have been a DE user for just over a year now but would like to pull the trigger on a Straight setup. These Hart razors are more than I was planning on spending but boy are they sweet looking. The Owners of Classic always told me that sooner or later I would switch to straights.

Hell of a blade to take the plunge on!

Mine is the Colbalt blue, silicone Hart, done by TV...its an awesome shaver, imo. Has a bit of a smile on the edge though...wasnt aware of that, until i got it in hand.
No biggie, just a bit more challenging on the hone.

Thanks.

What did you think? I ordered the walnut scale version. This is my first straight. I figured I would get something nice that I could keep for quite sometime. My brother used one for about six months (sold it to buy a Damascus blade Mastro Livi). He said he regretted selling it. He paid 4x more for the ML and prefers the Hart.

The only thing I can really comment on is the craftsmanship of the Hart razor. I haven't had the chance to handle too many so I really don't know what I'm looking for. I can say that the razor felt very sturdy and had a good weight to it. The blade looked like a flawless, very nice piece of steel. The scales look like a faux wood but are apparently silicone ($239.00 6/8 quarter grind). I liked the hardware they used on the particular razor I looked at. It gives it a very solid look. I would rate this razor a 10 out of 10 on looks alone.

I'm not sure what I will buy for my first razor though. As I said the Hart is more than I was planning on spending. I have a feeling I will end up buying one just because I know how I am but I plan on shopping for another week or so. I just want to buy a razor I know I will be happy with for quite a while instead of settling on a cheaper razor and wanting a new one right away. If that makes any sense.

Question from a newbie:
Is a quarter ground razor good for a beginner or should I go with a hallow ground.
