Harris Arlington Soap - Scent (Lack of)

For all the raves about the scent of Harris' Arlington soap, I was looking forward to trying this soap. Although I feel it is a good performer, I don't get all the discussion around its scent.

What scent? I could barely makeout a very light "standard hand soap scent" that was slightly fern/citrus based.

IMO, Arlington's scent is nothing close to being unique. That is, if you can actually pick up the scent.

I agree with you on performance. Though, when all is said & done, to me, all is forgiven to make up for its shortfall in the scent department.

I find DR Harris soap scents subtle in general as well. Perhaps, if you run the fan in the bathroom ceiling, you may be lucky enough to catch a whiff off it:lol:
I find the Lavender is the same on the scent scale - subtle

DR Harris scents talk softly but carry a big stick

It's definitely on the lighter side. Once I had used it for a week the scent came through and my whole bathroom smells like it now.

I also ran it through the cheese grater to pack it in the bowl better and the scent was really noticeable then.

Just keep using it, it smells terrific once you break it in.

I'm a big fan of subtle scents. I stay away from heavily fragranced soaps. Some like it and some not so much.

Huh. I'm purposely letting my Arlington puck air out to lose some of that scent. To my nose, it is the wicked stepsister to English Fern's Cinderella.

Just a quick 'second' to the disappointment after the raves. The shaves are ok and the scent is very mild.

Don't get me wrong... I think the scent is fine. I only wish it were stronger.

Definitely agree about the performance. I would rank up there as one of the better soaps.

Mmmm. Tallow.

I actually enjoy the scent of the As splash much more than the scent of the soap. I have a stick that I put aside for awhile and am going to give another go sometime later.

I'm definitely confused. I'm senstitive to strong scents and after reading reviews of DR Harris soaps, I ruled them out since most of the reviews mentioned strong scents.

On this thread, it looks like their scents are pretty subtle.

I found the scent of my Arlington to be subtle. I got it in a trade, though (it had been lightly used), so I don't know what it's like out of the box. I really like both the scent and the performance.

Same here, was going to order a puck to try.

I had a similar experience with Harris Marlborough AS splash--read about the scent and longed for it, hunted for it, finally found it for a decent price (well, a better price)....and re-sold it 3 days later.

It performed as well as an alcohol-based splash can, and the scent was nice. But it was so subtle that I couldn't smell it minutes later, and Significant Other couldn't tell I had put anything on.

There are splashes I keep just for healing, but scent is usually a big factor. I don't want to be that guy at the club who knocks you down with his fragrance, but for that kind of $$ I want to smell a little nice and enjoy it awhile.

I still wonder if the cologne would be worth it.
