Happy Kamehameha Day B&B!

Cool! Thanks! There's a song about him in Japan that I hear from time to time. I think it's pretty cool, except that for some reason it's sang as "Hamehameha" instead of "Kamehameha." I think this is it; I can't confirm because I'm at work. If it's wrong I'll be appologizing soon.

Nikkuchan, that tune is crazy! Kamehameha was a bit more of a bad *** then what that YTL portrays though. The guy was 7 feet tall and was known as a killer of chiefs! He built his Peleleu war fleet in Hilo to conquer the islands. Over 700 huge war sailing canoes I believe.

Send me Poke!!!!!

Make your own! Good luck finding the Limu, I did find a source of inamona for you though. If need be just skip the limu and kukui nut and add alae salt.

Hey, this is a great idea for the B&B cookbook!
Hawaiian Ahi Poke!!!

2 lbs. Ahi, cubed
One fourth cup soy sauce (the real brewed stuff)
1 Tbsp. Inamona (crushed, roasted kukui nut with salt)
Limu Kohu to taste
Red Hot Chili Pepper, finely chopped to taste
Green Onions, chopped to taste
Round Onions, diced to taste
1 Tbsp. Sesame Seed Oil

Combine all ingredients and mix. Serve chilled.

Was he a black man? All the paintings of him show a black man.

Off topic but how do you pronounce Hawaii? Do you say it like Hawai-ee and not Hawaiyee?

He looks Hawaiian to me. Maybe pulling a bit more on the Tahitian side than the Marquesan. Big Islanders would most likely be more descendants from a Tahitian lineage. Often in the language they would use a T instead of an K in pronunciation. Kaua'i folks not so much.

Oh OK. Gotcha. I have friends and family from all over the Caribbean and that skin tone and hair texture is reminiscent of them. Thanks for the clarification.

It's really interesting to think about cultural origins of prehistoric voyaging cultures like the Polynesians. The DNA spread has recently linked the indigenous Taiwanese to their gene pool. It would be no surprise to me to find out a voyaging culture like this could have genetic ties well west of Melanesia. This culture has been voyaging since before 100 B.C.

I 'd like to point out Kamehameha looks pretty clean shaven too
