Hair Wax/Pomade recommendations?

I am currently using a Redken product from a salon I went to - it has good hold, but at $20 a pop, I'd rather go for something equally as good, but not Redken expensive. Any thoughts? I'm in Canada, if that makes a difference. I'm looking for something with not too much shine, but a good solid hold.

Cheers!

American Crew is my go to brand for hair products. If you peruse their website they have a variety of Pomades and styling products for almost every need or hair style. It's a bit pricey averaging around $15.00 (U.S.) but with a little searching you can find it for a bit less.

+1. Usually sites like drugstore.com have coupons to make them more reasonable. I use American Crew fiber because I have thick hair and wanted a matte look. I used to use cheaper stuff but like that American Crew doesn't flake and looks fine even if it's windy.

Im an american crew fiber user myself, though i do find some of there high shine stuff very hard to wash out, the fiber leaves my hair with a dry look and great hold and washes out easy and a little bit in shorter hair goes a very long way indeed and when they are empty the tubs are great for sending out soap and cream samples lol

BTW not sure where in canada you are but if you are in GTA or Durham region like me i get mine at a store called trade secrets i bought my last batch on sale which it usually is there around christmas time i think i paid 14 bucks or so for it, but regular price on it is 19 or 20 up here i dont mind because of how long the tubs last me

I've been using Suave from Walmart. They have a pomade with medium shine/hold and a paste that has medium hold with a matte finish. I've used both. I prefer the pomade, but they both hold pretty well. Not bad scents on them and at about $3.00 a pop, I'll take it.

+1 If you're looking for something less expensive than American Crew or Redken.... this is a good alternative. Be advised though.... I believe that the Suave comes in a 1.7 oz size compared to the roughly 3 oz size of American Crew. It's still alot cheaper than American Crew per oz. I also use a brand called Trendstarter. They have a pomade that is the equivalent to the American Crew product for just under $7 for about 3 oz. I performs the same as the Suave product for me but I don't care for the scent as much as the Suave. I've only found Trendstarter brand at Discount Drug Mart stores, but you can order them on the web as well.

I like suavecito and groom and clean. I have some American crew clay that I've used a couple times it's a little too thick for me. I have very short hair.

+1 on the Fiber as well. Their Pomade is also good......

I enjoy DAX products (both Super Neat and Hair Shaper formulas). When my hair was shorter and I did the side part or pomp inthe front, I used the Super Neat. Now I have an undercut and top is roughly "slicked" back so I use Hair Shaper.

If I am playing a gig or dressing up, I use American Crew Grooming Cream. This has a strong hold.

On days that I am just chilling around the house it is mainly Groom and Clean or vitalis.

Honorable mention: I know I might get reamed for this, but the first pomade that I tried was the Axe (purple) pomade. It worked great. Gave me a nice pomp in the front. It is worth the try. Your hair will not move. Thicker than gel, but reminds of gel

All of these that I have mentioned are water soluble, which when dealing with hair products is a big deal to me.

Last night I order Lucky 13 Swagger Hair Cream Pomade (http://www.greasegasandglory.com/Lucky-13-Barber-Supplies-SWAGGER-cream-pomade..html).It is by Murrays, so I am expecting it to be a good product.

Hope this helps.

Grant's Golden Brand Pomade or American Crew Fiber

I use these two and I really like them. I have also tried Hawleywood's pomade which is good too. I am really enjoying Grant's new Royal Hawaiian scent at the moment.

I have really thick hair and trying to flip the front up the only thing I have found that works all day is got to be glued. The stuff holds like non other and is not shiny. I can even ride to work on my motorcycle and my hair will still look good after coming out of my helmet. It's cheap and I buy it at almost any store, target is my main place for it.

I have been using Aveda for men Grooming Clay. It works great for longer hair as well, and will dry to a matte finish. Washes out with no problem. It gives a flexible hold so you don't have a helmet head. It's a bit pricey at $22, but one puck lasted me four months with daily use.

I've been using Murray's lately. It will give you some shine along with the hold. I wasn't sure how I'd like that look, but I'm really enjoying it. It will give you excellent hold. You should be able to find it for no more than $5 per can.

I'm a fan of Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree shaping cream. It dries to a nice matte finish and leave the hair pliable unlike gel or glue.
