Hair type and Razor?

Was just wondering if the thickness and pattern of hair growth affect the type of blade to buy. Also how about the size of hands and lets say size of nose :closedeye

Anyways first time ever trying to pick out a safety razor, and was just trying to figure out which type would suite me best. Vintages seem really cool, just worried about sterilization and where to actually get it done.

Thanks

I started with safety razors about 5 months ago and found I wanted to try all the different types of razors (except straight). Also tried several different brands of blades in each type. I started with single edge, then double edge, and just recently injector. I've ended up liking M series adjustable Schick injectors best. You might have a similar journey. It will be fun, enjoy it. Forums like this are a wealth of info, but everyone seems to have their own favorite razor/blade/soap or cream combination which works best for them. On line auction sites are a good source for razors, but ask a lot of questions here so you know what to look for and how not to buy a lemon.

Right,

Merkur HD seem to be a good choice for a newbie? Want to select the correct housing unit (whatever its called), before I go into the fun of blades/soaps.

Seems everything after selecting the razor itself is cheap and easy to alter. Been, trying to search for a set online, but nothing is really grabbing my attention.

Can't believe the brushes are more expensive then the razor itself!

Merkur HD is a good place to start, but it's easy to change razors, too, and you may want to rotate among several to experience their differences.

There are lots of razors for sale here on BST, and having bought and sold a lot of razors here as well as on eBay, I'd much rather buy here as folks generally go above and beyond to make sure you know what you're getting.

Cleaning vintage razors isn't a big deal. Wash them in warm/hot water with soap, and if you want, use scrubbing bubbles, and/or barbisol, etc. I initially felt I had to do some type of major cleansing on razors because they've been used by someone else to shave, but you're using new blades anway, the razor only holds the blades, and you can get it clean enough with a good washing. As someone else pointed out, you eat all the time on silverware that has been in others' mouths, at home and in restaurants, with only a run through a dishwasher.

10 mins. in Barbicide kills everything!!!! I like the vintage razors myself....I bought a Merkur....and promptly sold it on the BST....just my preference.

I don't have Barbicide, but I do use medical type alcohol in a glass. I take the 3 piece apart and then drop it into the alcohol bath.

If it needs it, I also do a scrubbing bubbles clean up too.

Vintage razors seem scary at first to the new person, but with the right care and attention, they can be great.
