Hair growing at different rates on faces

Hey guys et al,

I have a sensitive patch of skin on my neck that is more prone to redness and sensitivity when I shave (on both sides of the neck, almost the same spot).

I did shave over the weekend to give those patches a rest. By Sunday night, I noticed that the hair was growing in the sensitive area at a *much* slower rate than the rest of my face. In fact, in the most sensitive areas, the hair did not seem to be growing at all! This seems to be the reason the skin is sensitive - I've shaving it everyday like it had growth.

I don't remember having these slow growth patches previously - is it something related to regular DE shaving? Do others get the same varied beard growth rates?

Thanks!

In fact it's the opposite for me. after using a DE i find my hair growth to be more even and uniform

I found more or less the same to be true.

My own personal theory is that because I've been shaving more frequently since the switch to DE shaving, it's been more noticeable that the hair grows at different rates.

Before, in my days using the multi-bladed monstrosity, I would go at least a week before shaving, and then the differences in hair length were less significant.

Unfortunately, I can't really think of a way around this. Perhaps some of the more veteran members could offer a really clever solution?

Best of Luck,

I don't see any reason to be concerned about this. Remember that everyone is different in all aspects. Beard growth rate will not be the same for you compared to anyone else. So don't worry about it. Just don't use any pressure when you shave, and keep working on your technique. You'll find that as you continue DE shaving your beard will grow better then it will from any other form of shaving. Your face will also feel better as you progress. As you get better you'll find that not only does your face feel better, and look healthy, but you'll feel better also. :w00t:

More likely is that you got irritated in patches because you shaved a little too close in those areas, which would account for the hair in those patches being a little shorter and, therefore, appearing to be growing at a slower rate.

Just speculating of course, but it sounds reasonable to me.

Always remember, light, even pressure is the ticket.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestions - I think many of them are valid.

I think I may be using too much pressure around my neck (or did early on, which has left his are very close shaven or even worse!), and getting too fine a shave in certain areas.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose has some irregularities in the beard. :001_smile

I am thinking about letting everything grow out for 3-4 days, then seeing if I can get it all the same length for one, with a nice long slow shave.

Your hair grows the way it grows, nothing you can do at the sink is going to change that. You're probably just a lot more in tune with your beard growth now since you obsess over it all day long

My neck which is the only place I get razor burn grows a lot faster the hair is also more dense compared with other parts of my face

I actually thought that too - Maybe I'm just noticing it now that I am much more into the shaving process (and my beard)!

The hair is still very shor there, and after two days growth the area is still very smooth (feels like it has been shaven).

Two more days of growth to go!
