Hair Falls Forward

Hey everyone,

This may or may not be the right place for such a thread, but it was the closest I could find. My problem is my hair. I try to have a part, but the hair at the front of my head (all of it actually, but this is where it is most visible) falls forward instead of falling backwards. In other words, when I try to comb my hair to the side, it always tends to fall forward in small strands. Yes, I use plenty of gel, and when my hair is long enough it will stay back, but right now I'm dealing with very recalcitrant hair. Do you have any trips or tricks to get hair to fall backwards naturally so that my hair styling will be much easier?

If it falls forward naturally, I don't think you'll get it to fall back naturally. That's genetics. Try a matte finish, strong hold cream. It'll allow you to keep your hair back without looking like you put gel in it. I use Aveda men's grooming cream.

Yup. Same here.

Best bet for me is to use product and fix it a few times a day,

or (my normal solution) comb it with lots of water in the morning and don't give a flying flip what it does for the rest of the day.

Or wear a hat.

Or shave the head (I would but my wife hates it)

or grow it out to a ponytail (did that in high school and college)

That's been my solution. I'd like to wear a hat more often, meaning a classy Fedora or something similar rather that the common baseball cap, but it's a little eccentric in this area among people by age (or they're worn by partiers in the completely wrong way).

use a blow dryer when your hair is wet and dry to desired style. I don't have your problem but my hair is a bit wavy/curly and using the heat I can make it do whatever i want.

Go to a real salon, and talk to a stylist. You need to have your hair cut to accomodate the way it grows, not just hacked at by a barber giving you a standard cut.

Pomades will hold your hair back, and keep it parted. The higher the weight the less shine and more hold, the lower the weight, more shine and less hold. As a general rule pomade will keep your hair slicked and should do the trick.

Well, a good barber can do it as well, but exactly this. If I get a good cut, it'll fall right in place right after I dry it off. A bad one, and I look crappy for 3 weeks until I get it cut again.
