What's new

Had a nice shave today - with a cartridge no name razor (

Hold on..!? You might think - what did he just say?

After shaving for about two months with DE razors, trying different blades and soaps I thought I would give my "old gear" a chance and try it again. This is the razor I was using up until this summer:

It is the kind of razor you find in any supermarket and it is a rip-off of the Mach III. I always used canned foams or gels.

What I did today was NOT going back completely to the way I shaved before - just replaced my DE razor with the cartridge one shown above. I still lathered with a proper soap and made preparations with warm water and applied a nice after shave product afterwards (still haven't reached the point where I use pre-shave products). The results were quite nice, not as baby smooth as with the DE razor but actually not far away. The lather was more easily rinsed off from the cartridge and I did not get any cuts or irritation.

I will not go back to using cartridges again but here is a nice insight based on the experiences from the last two months - if one just pays a little more attention to the products used around the razor and learn the basics of some shaving techniques, the shaving experience can improve a LOT. And this can be achieved without spending just a little more time but not more money.

Many of the products and techniques I use I have this forum to thank for. Before I just had my daily beard stubble removed - nowadays I get a pleasant process which I enjoy very much, and a result that I enjoy for many hours after, feeling cool, smooth and fresh for much longer. Can't wait until next shave... this time with my DE razor again. :wink2:

What used to annoy me the most about these multiblade cartridges is how they clogged up. I'm also convinced that the "gels" clog up your sink trap too after a while.

Yes I agree with you, and that is one of the small reasons I got a better shave today with the old cartridge razor - the shaving soap used rinsed off quite easily leaving the blades "non-clogged" :)

I did the same thing last week with the same results. My face was a little raw the next day so I won't do it again but it was a great shave only because of the techniques I learned from D/E shaving.

I actually told our mutual friend Brooks about trying the brush and cartridge and he is going to put down his electric and try it.

Nice work! Let's see how long it takes for our friend to give in and join the wet shaving family.
