What's new

Had a great shave with a Tech with a new handle!

I had a great 3 pass shave this morning with my Tech using a new handle.
It's one of the American fat handled Techs.
Showered, then did a 3 pass using TOBS sandalwood cream.
Wonderful BBS!
I bought the handle from Connaught Shaving Company. It's solid brass and nickel plated and it IMO it matches nicely with the Tech head.
I weighed the razor with the Fat handle and it was 48g
With the new handle the razor weighed 74g
Here's a photo with the new handle attached and the original handle on the right.

Sweet looking handle, makes a great match. The Tech IMO is the best of the best. Easy and effective, the benchmark of all modern razors.
If i was stranded on a south pacific island only inhabited with Polynesian women, and could keep only one razor, it would be the Tech.

May I ask what blade you used?

I find the sharp Russian Gillettes pair the best with a prewar Tech. I'm searching for a British Tech to round out my Tech collection.

Once again, it looks like a very fine handle upgrade to a very fine head.

I used a Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow, which I think is made in Russia.
I think they're great blades.

YES, the Yellows are Russian and I find them to work extremely well in the Tech. And Polsilvers are equally as good and I get 4-5 shaves on the same blade. This morning, i think I'll try a NOS Schick plus Platinum being the 4th of July.

I see Sir, you live in Sir Humprey Davy's birth town. Remarkable scientist! And it must be a unique place so rich in history.

Yes I do and here is his statue which is situated in the main street of Penzance.
He's holding the Davy lamp which he invented and used by miners all over the world.

Nice, thanks for posting that. His fascinating work even lead to electroplating, the finish on our Techs.

So, the handle is solid? I've stuffed my Fat Handle Tech handles with tungsten putty to get some additional "heft" to the razor but this handle sounds like a nice alternative to that. I like the look of it..... although I LOVE the look of the Gillette Fat Handles. It's one of my favorite handle designs of all time. Thanks for sharing.... a very nice pairing.

the heavy handle makes all the difference, i have been using a webber bulldog with a brit tech head for the last few weeks and love it, i cant seem to find time for my other razors because of it, its a great combo, the fat tech handle is a looker, if only it was solid and had more weight.
