What's new

guys GUYS

Yesterday I had my first DE shave with a feather blade. It was glorious. A little below my standards for a DFS but still. Anyway today I shaved again with the same blade and even more prep, and it was awful. Tugging, pulling and all-around irritation. My beard is dark, dense and wiry. Is it possible that I need a new blade for every shave? Or is it the feathers?

it is possible and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I do it. others do it. you won't be alone. the main thing to keep in mind is to make your shaves as comfortable as you can. do what works best for you. I use a new blade no matter the brand.

I can shave with any blade, and I'm cursed with diamond coated whiskers and have to shave twice a day. Its all in technique. With feathers, I can use them once and they are done for. My face wrecks them, others like astra sps I can use 3 times before they are done. Try switching to a new blade. Gillette 7oclock blacks astra sp and feathers are my top blades but each one has never given me more than 3 shaves....

I barely get 2 shaves out of Feathers; my Eastern Euro beard just takes that final hone straight off the Japanese steel and subsequent shaves have all the comfort of a piece of broken beer bottle. Do whatever works. If it's a new blade every time so be it.

I like Feathers for their sharpness, but have also found that two shaves are fine, the third won't be. I have what I'd call a medium beard overall, but the durability of Feathers just isn't there for me.

I've had 7 shaves out of a feather and I'm sure I could have gone for more wihout a problem.
It may well be purely down to your personal beard type. Mine is quite light but fast growing. Everyone is different I guess.

Looking forward to the sample pack I ordered from the world's largest retailer!

+1 This is what happens to me whenever i use a Feather; not quite glorious, but very smooth, then its alter-ego shows up for the second shave. Perplexing.
You may want to consider the Super Iridiums; smooth, sharp and long-lasting; my favourite blade.

For me at least, Derbys seem to have a nice combo of smoothness and longevity--the first shave might be a little rough, then the blade seems to "mellow", and it's good for a weeks worth of shaves. YMMV, of course.
PM me with your address, and I'll PIF you a few packs (I did a mass buy awhile back, so I'm set for quite a while).

Two points:

1. I do not like Feathers.

2. I can't believe username "Face" was not taken.

3. Math no sense make.

4. I love the word "glorious."

You might want to try Vokshods or Rapira blades. They're both (I believe) from Russia and are pretty good. I have to agree with the Astra SP's lasting longer. I have a medium thick beard and I can get 4 shaves out of an Astra.
The great thing about blades is the world is your oyster!
