Gunsmoke movie coming up

An update? In a post-Deadwood world, it'll probably be a little clearer just what it was that Miss Kitty was up to down at the Long Branch. I remember watching the final seasons when I was a kid and Miss Kitty was closer to hanging out in a senior center than running a frontier saloon.

LOL. Gunsmoke was pretty good as I recall, but when you look back on many of the programs from the 60s on one of the many cable channels that run old shows, you'll see that the production quality and acting level of television has really risen since the explosion of cable channels.

We have good memories of many of the old shows, but things have improved a lot.

+1 Gunsmoke was a bit before my time, but I remember watching re-runs with my folks and grandparents. I just hope they don't destroy it.

Yep, from the OP referenced site; “set in the same American West as the original but will feature a contemporary look and modern action twists.” :glare: :thumbdown

PC here we come. You know it will happen. I can see it now. There will be every stereotype in the Hollywood repertoire. No thanks.

I think that you're right--there's a whole template of stereotypical changes that will get dropped on this one. On the other hand, I personally don't feel that there's much to be lost in updating Gunsmoke, surely one of the most dull and generic westerns ever produced. Although it was on TV forever, you could make a good case that it never really made the transition from radio. William Conrad and the original cast were all cleaned out and replaced, but it remained a stagey, slow-moving production. The truth is that nobody is asking for this and nobody is looking forward to it. A legion of flunkies will produce something, a bunch of actors we don't really want to see will be cast in it, and lots of people for reasons that I do not and will never understand will buy their tickets and go see it. in fact, it will make enough money that they'll green light a sequel too. Ultimately, they'll even talk about bringing it back to TV--a watered down version of the senseless reboot of the boring original.

I'll watch it simply to see Marshall Dillon's new robot horse and Lady Gaga's portrayal of Miss KyTee.

Blasphemer!!!
Gunsmoke was the ONLY tv western worth it's salt!. A far cry from that god-awful Bonanza mushfest!
Viva Festus!!!!!

The series did become pretty trite over time. Hopefully they can do something good with this, like hiring Michael Mann to direct, for instance. Lots of period guns and equipment, but please, no more "Look what the bad white man has done to the peaceful Indian" dialogue. We know, already. Seems like every director that has to throw that in thinks they are the first to report this.

I'm skeptical, but I'll see who's in it. As an aside, my wife bought me EVERY episode of "The Rifleman" on DVD for Christmas -- I AM STOKED!!

Yeah, Bonanza really blew. Lot of badly lit studio shots passing for exteriors.

I'm telling you guys, for fun, find some of the old shows you watched as a kid and DVR a couple.
