Up here in my neck of the world its super hot and sticky today, 95 degrees and lots of humidity. Had to mow the lawn, and after finishing I took a shower and cleaned up. I haven't shaved for 2 or 3 days, so I did the kind of shave I've been doing lately. After my shower I used Proraso in the white tub, and being that my beard was a couple days old I used my Merkur HD OC, 11c, DE for the first pass. Really nice results, a DFS with the one pass. Next I folowed up for my second pass with my Feather AC RG. I've found doing this combo of the DE at first followed by the straight for the second pass and any cleanup leaves me with a super DFS, and almost BBS.
I didn't want to push it any further and risk any irritation, so I quit there. After a hot then cold rinse, a splash of witch hazel, and a nice balm, the feeling now approx. 2 hrs. later is almost BBS. I've found that combo of the DE first, and the straight next, leaves one fine shave for sure. And doing that combo really doesn't take any more time then shaving with either the DE or the straight for the whole shave.
Getting rid of the longer whiskers on the first pass leaves a nice smooth surface for the followup straight to complete the shave. At least for me I've found shaving with this combo is a nice way to go.
