What's new

got my tub of JM Frasers today

and i'm not sure what to think of the scent. it reminds of detergent. does it smell the same when lathered up? what do the other scents smell like?

the regular one I think (creme a barbe). is it supposed to smell like detergent or did I just get a bad batch?

I have the oriental spice, never tried the original. From what I have read the scent is kind of lemony. Lather it up, I doubt you got a bad batch... Fraser's Rules!!

I have the same one, and no, it's not a bad batch. That's sort of how it smells before you lather it. The scent isn't as strong once you get a good lather going.

It smells the same as Boosters Iced Lime AS. I think it smells like a lime popsicle without the sweetness. I absolutely love it. The performance is excellent and at a price point you can't argue with.

It's funny how our preferences are all different. I think Proraso smells like industrial floor cleaner. Just awful, but I get great shaves with it. I often add essentail oils to it to alter the scent to make it bearable.
The Frasers has a mild lemon/lime scent that I much prefer. It also gives me wonderful shaves.
I have yet to see Frasers in tube form, I don't believe Frasers products are available in anything other than the tubs.

Heh heh, "creme a barbe" just means "shaving cream" in French. I'm guessing you've never been to Canada, we have bilingual packaging on everything by law

I have the Fraser's original and the Mosswood. The original should smell very much like the old Gillette Lemon/Lime foam in a can. At least to me, they're very similar. Basically a light citrus of lemon/lime. I find that it's a great creme, one of the best actually at a fraction of the price. Stick with it and I think you'll come to enjoy it a lot!

Maybe we aren't asking the right question-- does your detergent smell like awesome shave cream?

I actually like the smell; light citrus sums it up. I think its a great bargain cream, but different people like different scents (think tabac, proraso, etc etc etc).

ok, I tried the JM Frasers tonight and I liked it. it provided a lot of cushion and slickness just like the proraso. i'm getting used to the smell so it won't be a complete waste.

The smell is extremely odd out of the tub, like a pearlized citrus or something, and it took me a while to get a feel for the right mix of water to get a good lather, but once you lather the smell mellows out. I do best with Frasers when I swirl the brush in the tub directly instead of picking out a clump of cream. It also works very nicely in a moss scuttle, and is quite moisturizing. I've tried creams that lathered thicker, but were not slick enough to provide protection. And I've tried soaps that were slick, but didn't have enough lather to protect. Frasers seems to be the perfect balance of the two for me.

Pound for pound, this is a basis of comparison for any good shave cream. But I must admit at first I thought it sucked. Took me a while to get a feel for it. Now I'm sold.

Funny you should say that...the thing is that you get a pound (16 oz) for ~$12.50 here in the US. That is roughly equivalent to three tubs of TOBS (5.3 oz) at ~$13.50 each. 3-for-the-price-of-1!:w00t: It's a almost unbelievable value, add to that the excellent performance that far-surpasses the price point (I find it at least as good as TOBS) and you have a deal that is impossible to beat. The only reason to pay more is to get a 3Ts scent.
