Got Me a Gold Progress!

Was considering purchasing a Merkur Progress after reading the many threads praising its’ shave performance. Well out of curiosity I looked on EBay and saw a gold one being bidded on by just two folks. Thought the price was reasonable and within my range so I waited till the last 5 minutes and placed a bid and won. By the way, this is my first purchase on EBay so I don’t know if this was a case of “Beginner’s Luck”.

Anyway, it was delivered today and I just clean it up using dishwashing liquid and a soft toothbrush. Don’t want to lose the red markings so I was very gentle in my cleaning. Then I shined it up with only a microfiber towel.
It came in a box and with the faded numbers of 520830. I may email Merkur and see if they can possibly tell me about its’ manufacture date. I don’t know if I got a deal but I’ve never had a razor quite like this. And yes to the question everyone ask about the white resin knob. I like it because it gives the razor a nice retro look. Also it feels very balance in my hand with just the right amount of weight in the head which I prefer.

Thanks for looking.

It is a beautiful razor. If it is what you want, like, need etc. and fits your budget then the price is just a number used to aquire the razor. In my notion a "Good Deal" is a state of mind.

However, if you share what you paid for it I am sure there are plenty of members that will give you feedback on their view of a good deal.

Congrats on a great find on the Bay.

I was watching that one to see how high it would go.
Does anybody know how long ago they stopped making them in gold?
Or can anyone date it by the box?

Congrats on the score. She is a beaut.

Pity they don't produce them anymore. I'm not partial to gold razors, but for this one I'd have to make an exception!

You did not pay too much. It's beautiful and unique, you like it, and it shaves well. That makes it a good deal, in my book.

(How's that for enabling? ;) )
