I am sure its a personal thing but... I LOVE the(Gem Jnr) Winchester!! OTOH the Christy for some reason reminds me of the Nightmare before Christmas. Creepy. Oh well...

I've seen the Gem Jr mentioned before as a popular SE. Is it one of the favorites around here? I saw I got one in a lot I opened up today. It does look pretty cool . . . ;)

Some would argue, myself included, that the 1912 like the one pictured is the best razor ever designed. The "Junior" on it means nothing, some were stamped with it and others without.

Another fine score! The GEM is a very nice SE razor, the Christy is next to unusable, but they do look cool. I say "next to" because you can split a DE blade and wedge it into the razor. I tried once... once. To quote me quoting Comic Book Guy, "Worst Shave Ever!"

Won't a standard SE blade work? Christy was just down the road from me, so there's a bit of a connect there.

The Christy razor takes a proprietary blade, needles to say it's no longer made. The blade was spineless, talking of course of the lack of a metal spine on the blade, not it's level of courage:tongue_sm. Standard SE blades are far too wide, and would require massive modulation to work. (As mentioned before, a halved DE was still too big to work properly.) The razor itself is a beauty. I have one set up in my little razor display. If the money is right, buy one if you can. You'll have a nice little piece of shaving history, and possibly, in your case, a neat emotional connection.

BTW... Does anyone have the "Living Next Door to Alice" song in their head, a little tweaked? "Christy, who the #&*$ is Christy"? I'll never get used to not living next door to Christy.

Yeah I can see that

I does look pretty sweet!

Can't Wait to try it out - never used a SE before.

Totally heard his voice in my head,:lol:

Nice! did you clean that up and if so do tell how. Looks like a great polish job.

Yeah I cleaned them up - especially the Christy - just used soap water and a tooth brush to get the grime off. And I polished with mothers chrome polish - just be careful what you use that stuff on - If the plating is weak it'll take it right off !!! and NEVER use it on anything colored gold --- YEEEEOUCH

Seeings that we are from the same area and I also have a SE that I love, I want to let you know that you can get GEM and Blue Star blades @ Boyds or the "Old" Albertsons Family Thrift has PAL all at reasonable prices too, but since you enjoy Williams you may have already seen these blades at either location. WG has the GEM but want twice as much.

Good to see more local boys! I pick up my Williams at the Bacon Park FTC, they have Schick injector blades there as well. :thumbup1:

Have you guys found any local "hot spots" for picking up soaps, blades, brushes, AS or anything else? I see that Main Street Market sells Kiss My Face and some over shaving supplies!

I wouldn't say there's any one hot spot. As you mentioned, SE blades are scattered about. Bacon Park FTC also has some Kiss My Face creams and a small assortment of AS that don't seem to be too many other places. Dollar store AS can be found, well, at the Dollar Stores:001_rolle Staple and Spice has a small choice of shave soaps/creams, and the last time I was there they had a few Herban Cowboy brushes. If you guys want to look at some really great stuff, there is a little barber shop on Main St. called Rustic Razor, it has a green facade and is between Andrew Jackson and Franklin Pierce. (That would be between 8th and 9th St. on the South side for any non-locals) The saff is very nice and happy to let you just have a look if you're not in the need of a hair cut at the time.

Shaved SE this morning -- awesome!
