What's new

I will order a Chinese bespoke razor next time.

COPPER 1.jpg

This DOC copper-coated effort from Phoenix Shaving landed.
It doesn`t even say anywhere on the box where it`s made; no Country code.

I can`t even be bothered to email the company to ask whether the plating is 5 microns or 20 microns or ceramic coating.

The original tip weighs less than the optional coloured one and the finish quality is different for both.

So with shorter lead times I`ll just get a Chinese bespoke pure element or industrial alloy one next year and cut out the middle man.
So I want a totally bespoke razor for my sixtieth - my family in Guangzhou can help me negotiate.
I`ve already got a 45 foot, 6 - berth yacht with chef chartered for a month in the Dodecanese sailing from Monaco`.

Copper-coated???

I can’t find any copper-coated razor on the vendor’s site, but I did find a Copper Ascension Twist-Adjustable Double Open Comb Safety Razor | High Shine & Rose Gold Plated.
As copper is such an unusual material for coatings, could you provide a link to this copper-coated razor?

If I understood you right, the only criticism that you have on this razor is that the quality of finish between tip and rest of the razor is different.

For gold-plated watch cases, typical thickness ranges from 5 to 10µ, so that should not be much of an issue.

If I were to order a bespoke razor, I’d make sure it comes from a reputable manufacturer and vendor with a known track record.
It would be a pity if a razor that does not match what was shown and promised to you would spoil your 60th birthday enjoyment.

Dodecanese Islands (Greece) from Monaco?
That’s quite a haul. Don’t drop the razor into the sea while shaving.
I love the idea of shaving on (a steady) deck on a sunny Mediterranean morning…

Cool and slimy
I can't afford the chef or the yacht, but I would afford me whatever razor I want in STEEL. PRAISED BE CROM. But Crom doesn't listen. Oh well. Also, please don't confuse the Cimmerian God with Chrome, coating or browser.

Cutting out the Middle Man is well worth it. @m949 recently pointed out a German company selling Baili razors for fantasy prices, it wasn't funny anymore.

You know the riddle of steel, don't you?

The definition of "bespoke" indicating custom -to-purchaser, I can't see that with either PAA od a Chinese OEM.

I have the rose-gold wash copper and stainless DOCs, and they are superlative examples of the concept. I do find the bombardier handle style chintzy, and the changeable flare tip copy is no better, but handles are easy enough to change.

I'm not totally sure I follow your thinking, OP...?

I have one of these PAA copper Ascension one the way. I loved their Ascension Select, but I broke it. I wanted a heavier upgrade and went with the heavier option over the SS one. The whole thing is copper coated in a “rose gold” plating. It is made in China, I believe, like damn near everything. I am looking forward to it!

Oh Jamolay you will absolutely love it - unscrewed it a quarter turn and it was still as smooth as anything - I like a bit of feel and bite coming from crazy old straights so all DE efforts are a doodle to me and rarely catch me out even with feathers and big blade gaps.

The copper will keep you warm shaving outside or in a cold house - brilliant idea.

Cast Iron Deep Pan Saucepan.jpg

I`ve just got this cast iron pan to keep my soap warm in the Winter or shaving al fresco - it`s on it`s way now - An old caveman needs some comforts.

I`m used to using old straights drunk in the dark with no water - using booze and oil - I`ve stropped with toothpaste on my old leather belt - needs must !

If I do a group buy with mates or generate a big order with contacts I can negotiate big discounts with my Chinese buddies in the Federation of Small Business and local Chamber of commerce.

The Chinese are flexible innovative, competitive traders; lived there for 15 years plus I have Chinese family which opens doors.
