Good price for O-4 Super Adjustable?

I'm looking at a 1969 O-4 Black Handle Super Adjustable on the bay. The buy it now price is $39 but it looks to have some gunk on the handle with rust spots in the head. The gunk on the handle seems to be surface only and could be cleaned fairly easily. $40 seems steep for this and the only reason it has caught my interest is that it's my birth year.

- What would be a fair offer for this year and condition (there is also a make an offer button)?
- Is the black handle plastic coated or painted for possible replating?

$39 seems high. The handles on these have a polymer coat of some sort, and as far as I know nobody has come up with a really perfect way to restore it. They can be cleaned- I have done 2 of these that came out great, and 2 that didn't.
The heads are much easier to bring back to great shape than the handles, so my opinion is to look for one with a handle that is in great shape even if the head looks 'grungy'.

Don't be afraid to pay TOO much for one that is pristine. It will save you money in the long run because if you buy an OK one you will find another that is a little better than OK and get it, then still be looking so you might as well just buy one that is as close to perfect as you can find and STOP right there. Even though it is more money initially it is still going to be cheaper than owning 4 or 5 OK razors and still be looking for one in better condition.

Way too much for that one. Keep looking Mine cost a mere $25 inc postage about 18 months back and it was in shave ready condition, no marks etc. Just had a quick look on the bay and there's quite a few in as new condition with cases for that kinda money. Have you cheked the BST. some one was offering 4 the other day.

Yeah, I saw those and thought about the O-2 but passed on it. I'm not so much interested in the razor itself, although they do look nice. O-4 is my birth quarter and the only other one that I've seen wasn't adjustable and looked like the handle had been chewed on.

Looking is half the fun right?
