What's new

Good find, but.

Today I paid £6 for what I think is something pretty rare -- a silver plated Gillette NEW ball handle razor, labelled Made in England, with silver plated blade holder and an assortment of Gillette Standard and Gillette Blue blades, all in a blue leather case which is in remarkably good condition. The razor had a still very sharp blade in it, so might have been used, but then again it might not. There was no soap scum I could detect, and after a bit of very careful cleaning it looks pristine. The teeth of the combs are perfect, as is the hollow handle and head; it's a beautiful looking thing. I'll have to try and post some pics of it.
But what to do with it? Use it? Keep it for show? Sell it? I just can't decide at the moment.

first you take pictures because talk is cheep, and this week Talk is on sale at half price (Available at your participating politician. Some restrictions may apply.)

Not a brilliant pic, but the best I could do.

I've now had a shave with this razor, using a Feather blade, and it was probably my closest yet. It did feel a bit different to normal, probably because it's my first oc razor -- not uncomfortable exactly, but not what I'm used to. What I wasn't keen on, however, was the handle. It just felt too thin and light to me. I suppose I might get used to this, but I'm not sure I want to. I was wondering if the handle off any other vintage Gillette three piece would fit instead. Of course I would keep the ball end handle, but just use the replacement one. Cheers all.

I would keep it, display, and use it here and there. Not as a main razor, but I would use it!

Aweful pretty looking, Nice find :)
