Good brush for face lathering

I'm starting to think I could use another brush to add to the rotation. Currently I'm using Penchetta Finest and I really like this but I want to pick up a white tip.

I usually face lather but a few times a week I'll use a cream (Godrej Menthol). Leaning towards the BBE, you guys know of anything that might be better (for me) in that price range? THX

I use either a Savile Row 3226 ("finest silvertip") or a cheap boar bristle brush for face lathering. These have more substantial bristles and I find this to be a big help for face lathering.

My other badger brushes are floppier and softer and, to me, do not do as good a job of face lathering. They are fine for bowl lathering.

YMMV

Are stiffer bristles (boar) prefered for face lathering? I used a cheap boar when I first started wet shaving and I hated it because I couldn't build a lather, but I was also bowl lathering then.

The boar bristles are probably stiffer, but the Savile Row is just denser than most badger brushes. Either way, these brushes stand up to the rigors of face lathering better than floppier brushes.

Boar works very very well for any kind of lathering, face included.

Keep in mind that the size of the brush, be it badger boar or synthetic, may be a determining factor towards using a brush as a face latherer or not.

Some people love large brushes (Chubby 3) and have to trouble face lathering with them. Others can never get the hang of it.

The three badgers I have from the smallish Rooney 2/1 through the much larger Shavemac 177 and Rooney Heritage all face lather great. Each has its own quirks, and you'll have to play with the water/lather combination a bit, but since converting almost exclusively to face lathering, I couldn't be happier.

A size one Rooney would be a great choice. Any Omega boar brush (except maybe for the very large 48) would be a good choice as well. Omega boars are quite reasonably priced, and are much better than any drug store brush.

I agree on the size of the brush is pretty important for face lathering. I much prefer the tiny Wee Scot for face lathering as it seems to concentrate the brush action where I want it....also is does not hog lather like my larger badger or boar brushes.

I've used the following very successfully with face lathering. They are my rotation and I never use a bowl.

Kent Bk4
Rooney Style 3, Size 1 Super
Shavemac 177 23mm Silvertip
Crabtree & Evelyn Best Badger

These go from floppy (Kent) to stiff (Rooney) and in between (Shavemac/C&E). I get great lather with each one of them from soaps and creams.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll definatly be getting one of these soon. I'll let you know how it compares to my Penchetta in a few weeks. Thanks again
