Good blade for Muhle R89

I have a new Muhle R89 arriving in a few days and was wondering what blade you gents use in yours? Can't wait to try this razor after reading all the reviews.

I am using Iridiums as well. Very smooth, very close shave, a great combination for me. I hope the SuperMax Sunrise Titaniums do as well.

I'm really enjoying the razor, a nice piece of work.

In the end, your face determines what's best.

well, i been using feathers in there and i get no irritation or nicks...yet not as close a shave as the iridiums....the iridiums however bit me a couple times here....either is great just have to buy both and try, i think im going to load up on feathers-no cuts > close shave.

I tried the SuperMax Sunrise this am, and while a close shave, I seemed to have to work a bit harder to achieve it. The Iridium seemed to be smoother, altho' I know that's subjective. I'll be ordering some more Iridiums today, if that means anything.............

Still love the razor.

I think almost any blade will work in the 89.

I thought that Derby's cut like lawn mower blades in my HD. They cut like a dream in the 89.

Sharks and Iridiums work well, Feathers left a few nicks (as usual for me).

I prefer Astra Platinum's in mine though.

+1

I try different blades constantly in my various razors, even though I have 5 types that I have a bulk supply of (Gillette Seven O'Clock Super Stainless, Derby, Red IP, Bluebird, Feather).

I think this razor is so well built, and smooth to shave with, that there is likely a wider range of blades that will work with it.

On the other hand, I can successfully use a wide range of blades; but some are smoother than others.

My muhle arrived today and I've loaded it with a yellow 7 o'clock for the shave tomorrow. I have some iridiums coming later this week. Can't wait to report to you about the shave.

I like Iridiums in my DE89L with the same head. I also really enjoyed the Feathers. In most razors I really enjoy Israeli personnas, but not in this for some reason. 7 O'clock yellows were, just ok.

Well, I tried a Feather in my R89 this morning. 3 passes and some touch-up, my usual regimen, and great shave. Seemed to burn just a bit, but some witch hazel doused the fire. Can't really tell too much difference, if any, than the Iridiums, altho' if I had to vote, the Iridiums would get the honors. I am getting 3 shaves with the Iridiums, 4th yesterday was a bit "pully." We'll see about the Feathers.

Still like the razor more than my others, an Ever-Ready, 53 SS, 57 SS, and 21-29 Old type. The Ever-Ready and the Old type were my grandfather's, but hey, you gotta make your own memories, right?

Rich

PS I also have a Derby that came in some box with something, will try that as well, maybe this weekend.

Any blade you liked before in other razors I guess.

It is a very forgiving razor IMO.

Isn't that one beatiful razor? I've had mine for just a couple of weeks and absolutely love it. I have found the Astra Platinums to best of the blades I've tried, but I haven't tried the 7 o'clocks or the Irridiums.

Being new to DE shaving, I didn't think there would really be a difference between blades and thought the Derby's would be the one I used but the Astra's are clearly a better, more nick free shave. I don't think I've actually had a single nick free shave yet though... always get one tiny little weeper somewhere on the last pass!

I tried Astra's in mine this morning and the best shave yet. So far I've tried 7 o'clock yellows, iridiums (which were both great shaves) but I think I got my best shave with the astra this morning. I did get a couple of weepers, but nothing bad.
