With regards to your question about blades, I know they all look the same from a distance but they actually can feel very different and provide different results. So as a beginner, I would get a sample pack and try different blades to find a few that work best for you. Check out razorbladesclub, or a competitor, they have tons of different blades.
I personally like Gillette Nacet, Gillette Platinum, Gillette Permasharp, Bic Chrome Platinum, Bic Astor, and Personna Platinum.
That being said, like someone said before me, with blades you will have to try them yourself because they are very subjective, a blade I love, someone else could hate and so on.
As for longevity, it depends on beard coarseness, razor used and technique. Most people get between 4 and 7 shaves out of a blade but you will find outliers who get a new blade every shave or get 20 shaves out of 1 blade.
