golden nib super vs silvertip

I have been reading a few posts on the golden nib knots. Are Tony's super badger knots regarded as being softer than the silvertips or are the silvertips the softest possible badger hair?

I believe Tony has an explanation on the Super Bader. It's supposed to be treated silvertip "which lighten and softens the tips". I have one of each....silvertip, Super and Finest.

Personally, I like the Finest the best. Stiff and soft. An the brush seems to be more consistent in quality than the others. I have a silvertip that is also very soft, actually softer than the finest, but not nearly as dense or firm. The super is also very soft, but seems to be the least firm, least dense of the three.

Not bashing any one of these, they are all excellent knots. If I had to keep just one, it would be the finest without hesitation.

I also have the hand-tied UK best badger one from Tony which is also very nice.

Just remember that it all depends on how deep you set the knot in the handle. This makes a huge difference in how it feels.

I have both the UK super and the "standard" silvertips from Golden Nib.

The UK supers are luxuriously soft, with zero scritchyness. The knots are not particularly densely packed, but that's no big deal, they perform great.

The "standard" silvertip knots are pretty nice, but they do feel a bit scritchy on the skin, just a slight pricklyness when lathering.

I had a "standard knot in one of my handles, and drilled it out to replace it with the UK super, if that tells you anything.

And I also like setting both knots for about 45mm of loft, which keeps them from being floppy, yet they are still quite soft.

I am thinking of setting it to get a 45-50mm loft, I want it to retain a firm feel. Now all I need to do is find some waterproof epoxy.

I used super strength two part Araldite epoxy adhesive from Bunnings on my 20mm silvertip knot.
It works fine. Good luck with your project:001_smile

Cool! So, araldite is the brand?

Edit: I just realised it is the selleys epoxy. Ill try this one out...it states high water resistance.
