Gold Dachs Soaps

Hey everyone,

I've been looking around at some of the shaving soaps, and am curious about Gold Dachs. Anyone know of somewhere that I could get a sample of this? I'm wondering about the scent of it as well as the lathering performance. I think Garry had some a while back but no longer unfortunately.

www.vintagebladesllc.com has some in a travel tin. I don't know where you could find a sample, though.

While it lathered well for me, Gold Dachs also gave me an unpleasant burning sensation; I couldn't use the stuff. It might be worth it for you to find a sample to try, especially if you have the same reaction as I did.

I just started using Gold Dachs. It is my first shaving soap and I love it. It lathers richly and easily and is a pleasure to use. I picked mine up at Colonial Drugs in Cambridge, MA. It apparently has a high Ph, which softens the beard quickly but which also causes a burning sensation for some people. I haven't experienced this. I guess you're not supposed to just let it sit on your face for too long. Describing the scent is difficult; sort of a clean "barbershop" smell, perhaps even a whiff of citrus or eucalyptus thrown in. Definitely not an overpowering scent. Like a milder Proraso green without menthol.

Echo that in every word. I got A LOT of soaps but this one sure does shine. I am a bit surprised that this soap does not get´s much airplay around here. It´s stellar. To say the least.

Gold Dachs and Dr. Dittmar (which is similar) are on my list aswell. So far I have hesitated because they seem a bit pricey for such a small puck but it's apparently a very hard soap that lasts long.
