Gold Dachs Soap

I recently received my tin (I like the idea of the tin for traveling) with its puck of Gold Dachs soap and was surprised to see how small the puck is. It almost seems like it was made to sit in one of the older scuttles where the soap remains on top and the water drains into the reservoir below.

I have used it for three shave so far, and as I do with all new soaps, no prep before or added treatment after, only some aftershave, so I can get a good feeling on how the soap performs by itself. With only three uses, it feels like the Gold Dachs soap does not dry out the skin like other soaps do, and there is no lingering scent afterward. The shave results are good as well... a CCS with 2 passes.

Like with all my soaps, I drip some hot water from my soaking brush enough to coat the soap and let it sit while I brush my teeth (~2 min) before taking the shaken dry brush to the puck, and I still see over 80% of the original stamp on the soap. How long would you expect this soap to last if used daily?

It will last a real long time.
Gold Dachs is one of my favorite soaps and I use it in a rotation with about four others.
Current puck has been in the rotation for about two years and I don't think half of it is gone.
You are right, it is a great soap for a very reasonable price.

Gold Dachs is such a great soap, and realtively unsung perhaps because it doesn't have tallow; however, it's most certianly in my top 5.

Where can you get these in Germany or Europe? I've been in Germany on business but I can't seem to find this soap!

I don't rotate soaps and I shave every day, two passes minimum. I started using the Gold Dachs soap in early December and I think I'm between half-way to two-thirds through it, so I'm going on five months now. I like it, but I have other soaps that I would like to try after, like Tabac or some more Gentlemen's Quarter Shave soaps.

I got my tin from Vintage Blades LLC

I'm not sure how long it will last. I used it a few times so far and it works quite well. It doesn't seem to melt too quickly as I can still see the logo on top!

Enquiring minds want to know. :yesnod:

My guess... 4 months.

I think it will be less, as it's a smaller puck than typical French or English soaps. I also do not think it is triple milled. I think I have ~14 shaves with it so far, so I will venture a guess at 2 months.
