Gold ball end tech with rust?

Hello gents!

Recently picked up a gold ball end tech on the bay for around 5 buckaroos. Overall it's in great shape and retained most of it's beauty, but the head has suffered what I assume to be a somewhat serious scrape which has no doubt ruined the plating and in turn replaced the lovely gold with what appears to be rust.

Does anyone know of anything I could do to possibly salvage the head of the razor and make it into a shave grade razor once again? So far I've tried to let it soak in scrubbing bubbles for 5 minutes or so which hasn't seemed to help much.

Thanks in advance gents!

I highly doubt it's rust. All Techs, except for the late model 1970's era Techs**, were made of plated brass. Brass is incapable of rusting. :thumbup1:

**Late model Techs were made of plated Zamac/Zinc/Pot Metal.

+3

The later Techs were pot metal? I'm assuming just the cap was and the baseplate would have still been brass?

It was only the cap on the late mode "Embossed" Techs that was zinc, the base plates and handles were still made from brass.

Thanks gents!

I will attempt a very gentle cleaning of the affected part and see what the results are. I've always liked the gold ball end tech and would hate to not be able to use this one!

As for the date of the razor itself I'm unsure for now, I don't recall it having a date code. Either way I seem to have misplaced it in the jungle that is my apartment :001_rolle
