What's new

going to Riga, Latvia. anyone knows of shops there with shaving supplies?

going to Latvia in some weeks, and i will have one or more days in Riga. wonder if there is someone who have been there who found some shops with shaving supplies, more than the blades and aftershave you get in shops there (gf have bought blades for me before). As everything else there seems to be cheaper, I hope to get some more nice smells, fill up with some soaps and get a new brush, maybe a razor too.

would be great if someone have been there and remember some shop, so i don't have to run around everywhere looking.

You'll probably find a lot of Russian supplies, such as Everest aftershave or shaving cream, Svoboda aftershave cream.
Other Russian creams include Tete a tete, Viking, Phyto Expert and Comme il faut.
May want to grab some blades such as Sputnik.
Shypr after shave in a glass bottle.
All these are Russian products, usually widely available in all the former Soviet Republics, harder to find in the West.

Actually made in Latvia, not sure...

But here is a thread with a Latvian razor, maybe you'll be lucky and find one of those

I'm not from Latvia but from Lithuania (which is to south from Latvia). My guess would be that situation there is pretty similar to situation in my country. If that's the case you won't find a large variety of wet-shaving supplies there. Some Gillette, Nivea, Palmolive and L'Oreal shaving related goods in supermarkets. Also some very low-end afteshaves and colognes, but you probably don't wan't those. Some DE blades, mainly Russian made. And of course Russian (and other Eastern European producers) made shaving creams, aftershave creams, colognes in smaller shops. Slim chances for (decent) brushes or shaving soaps.
I bought most of my wet-shaving stuff online from foreign sellers. At home I only bought DE blades, Nivea Sensitive balm, Gillette Arctic Cool aftershave gel and Russian creams.
But hey, maybe I'm wrong and you'll dig-out something. Good luck! :001_smile

If you do find russian creams and blades, grab 'em ! they should be much cheaper there then in the u.s...stash them in your checked-in luggage, perfectly legal to transport.

Traveling from Norway by car, so don't have to think so much about space and check in :) tried some Russian made "Gillette rubie platinum plus" before that my gf brought, one of the more popular she said, and i like them even more than derby (what i usually use). Think i will take some samples of everything i find, and some extra of what i hear is good when it comes to blades. Unless somebody have found some special shop with lots of these things i guess i just have to ask around when we come there, and look in supermarkets and so on. Hopefully i am able to try alot of different things under my stay, so i can fill my bags with what i like best when i go home.

Russian creams, balms, and aftershave splashes (most of them are excellent. Unfortunately they really are not available except in Russia and the countries in the vicinity. Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, etc. The shipping is much too costly to North America and I also noticed that the packaging of these items is almost entirely in Russian. (I'm 100% fluent, but not everyone else I know is!) Unless you can read and understand what's written on that packaging you may not want to buy it.

Interesting to see, as I will hopefully be going to Riga soon for a long weekend. Anyone have any updates on where else to find things or what specifically to look for?

Thankfully, with the spread of smart phones I can always translate packages in the store to make sure I'm actually getting shaving cream (instead of toothpaste or something like that!)
