Glue on Super Iridiums

Just got some Iridiums and *damn!* is there ever a lot of glue on them. I'm no stranger to glue spots but these are so thick that when I load my Merkur 1904 with the spots facing up, they are so thick that they actually distort the straight cutting edge of the blade! I mean the glue forces that part of the blade downward causing a 'ripple' in the cutting edge at that spot. Even when I took the razor apart the blade was stuck in place with the glue and had to be popped out.

Have any of you gents had a similar problem? I turned the blade with the glue spots down and that seems to have helped a bit but... I'm not into cleaning the glue off of each blade (time consuming and dangerous) . Yikes!

I think all russian Gillette blades have glue dots. Never had any problem with those with my Futur.

The glue doesn't bother me. I load the blade with the glue spots facing down. The glue seems to dissolve in water, after the first shave it's gone.

Oh how that glue bugs me! My Astras sometimes stick to the silo doors on my SuperSpeeds and make it hard to open. Once I thought the mechanism was failing by the way it felt. If only my water would dissolve them!

Love the Russian blades, hate those four spots.

Recommendation that works for me.

I had tried wiping the glue away but fear I may lose a finger rather then whiskers.

If usind a 2/3 piece or TTO razor I place the glue dots down, This way it is either easier to remove (2/3piece) since sticks down and is easier to clean off rather then clean head piece or does not affect the doors on a TTO

The glue/wax spots are a trademark of any blade from the St. Petersburg, Russia plant. That includes Astras, Polsilvers, Sputniks, whatever. There are about eight different brands/models made there.

This has been discussed many times over both here and other shaving sites. Scraping the spots off with a used blade works, but when the spots encroach on the edge area, as they often do, one runs the risk of damaging the new edge.

I have a small stash of blades from there, but won't be buying any more. The spots are a deal breaker for me.
