Gillette SuperSpeed Problem

Hi! I recently purchased this Gillette SuperSpeed Flare tip and it has been working just fine, however today when I opened the barn doors to load a new blade in, one of the barn doors just came out! I put it back again and it worked good but I noticed that sometimes when I close the barn doors, the pin that hold the barn door in place is barely inserted in the barn door, here is a picture to describe how it looks like:

Is this a common problem? how can I fix this?

You can take it apart and see what happened to it, underneath the handle unscrew it, and gently slide it out and see what made it break.

Too bad: looks like the end-cap popped out of its socket. Will it snap back in, or did a piece break off?

Looking on the bright side, this could be a great excuse to look for a backup razor.

Unless that is a family heirloom I would recommend finding a replacement, I really like flare tip super speeds and thankfully they can be found at great prices and in great condition.

Thanks for the help, well it is not broken, only the pin comes out every once in a while like in the photo, I can snap it back in but I will try to disassemble it and see what happens, also coming from a Gillette Super Speed, will I see improvements with an Edwin Jagger DE89?

Both are great, the gaps one each is different so the shave results may be based on that. The bigger the gap the more aggressive. The DE89 has a 76mm gap and the The SS has a 64mm.

I really love this Gillette Super Speed but I live outside USA and by far this Gillette I own is the only Superspeed over here, so I hope I can fix it, I can always just put the barn door aligned correctly and it will close and open just fine, but sometimes the pin will come out of the barn door and I have to place it back again

Looks like the lift arm with the pin in it is bent away from the door. Could you post a picture looking at the head from the bottom?

If you do decide to strip it down 2 points to note. The screw is a cap screw and you will need to modify a screwdriver to fit (easy job to do) and 2 it has a left hand thread.

Looking closer at the OP's razor, he will find no screw in the TTO knob. His has the crimp ring as it was made after 1957.

It seems that the piece that holds the barn doors in place is a little loose so it comes out from one of the barn doors

Yes it has the clamp ring it is a 60's super speed

If nothing is cracked or worn badly, some gentle reforming of parts may put you back in order. Could you post a picture of the head from the bottom with doors closed and one from the top with the doors open?

You can see on the pictures that the bottom left pin is almost out, while the metal piece on the right side is all the way in

Just tap the ends of the hinges slightly to bend them back into place. Looks like the ends of the hinges are bend a bit outwards, making the pins that hold the silo doors together loose. It's an easy fix. Just put the silo doors back into the pins on each side, then get a small hammer and tap the ends of the hinges back in, until the pins are firmly into the holes on the silo doors. It looks like it's just the one side of the razor that has the loose hinge.

Thanks for the help, I will try that so you mean to put the pins back into the holes of the silo doors, close the doors and then tap it with a small hammer, should I tap the center of the metal piece on the side, I didn't quite get that part sorry
