Gillette slim adjustable mastery

I was whining about my slim adjustable not giving a good shave to a fellow DE shaver and was given the best advice ever. The instructions given were to start out at 9 on pass 1 then down to 7 for pass 2 and then 3 for pass 3 so for the heck of it I pulled it out tonight and got a better than average shave using this method with very little effort. Has anyone else had similar success dialing the adjustment setting down with each pass? I am going to try this with my Futur tomorrow night hopefully it works just as well.

No. On my Futur it's set at 1.5. Good enough. On the vintage I do the opposite of you. Start out low and go high. To each their own.

I do something similar with my Futur and Progress. Some do the reverse, which I've never understood.

My slim showed up today, and I'm new to DE, so the 9 setting is very intimidating right now. Been using a NDC 40s SS and a Merkur 33c up until this point. Thank you for posting this technique, I'll probably start at 6 for the first pass then work down from there.

I set it at slightly different levels for each blade, but don't adjust it for each pass. Too much work for me. Since it works for you, no need to change. Enjoy your shaves!

The Slim has become very prominent in my rotation; I pretty much leave it on 5 all the time and get awesome shaves. Enjoy, it's quite an engineering marvel.

Happy shaving
Dave

I keep it on 5 usually. If my neck is becoming irritated for some reason I'll bring it down to 2 for the areas that are irritated until that clears up.

First 6 months couldnt go past 5/6 without awful irritation.

Now I start at 9, do a second pass at 9 and touch-up/buffing on 7.

Technique is paramount (and my lather is a LOT better these days...).
