Gillette Silver Blue vs Personna Med

Anyone conducted a test on how they compare or have an opinion on which is best, sharper or smoother? I've been using GSB's for a month and think they are probably the best blade I've used to date for a smooth, comfortable and very close shave. But now I've seen a few threads on the Personna I'm not sure if I should also give these a try.

imo 2 different blades. the gsb is sharper for sure. and i think maybe by just a hair the meds are smoother. i dont have any meds right now or i would send you a few. imo i have used both the meds and the labs and i feel they are the same and the labs are very cheap like 13$ for 100. i dont see any reason to buy the meds anymore. i think the gsb is a better blade.

I've found a site in the UK where I can buy the meds in a bundle of 10 blades, so I'll give them a try out!

Meds are among the sharpest blades I've used. Their smoothness will mask their sharpness. I found the Silver Blue to be a good blade, but not equal to the hype I've read. IMO, the Personna Reds are both sharper and smoother than the Silver Blues, and the Reds aren't as sharp as Med Preps, nor is either as durable as Meds.
I don't really intend that as a knock on the Silver Blues because, as I said, I think they're a good blade, but Med Preps are an elite blade in my blade locker, matched only by the 7 o'clock Black, Polsilver SI, and original Super Iridium.

so who has the best prices for the meds nowadays??

edit looks like robbins for 250 blades is about as good as i could find.

Yeah, to get Med Preps at reasonable prices you have to buy 250 to 500. You can Google and find several med supply houses that carry them and there was a thread here not long ago with some links. Worth it in my mind. There's just nothing not to like about Med Preps, 7 o'clock Blacks, Iridium Supers, or Polsilver SI's. All are sharp, smooth, and durable. You just have to shop a little to get them at good prices.

These are the same blades that Robbins and EMS sells. It appears to me that currently, all Personna blades that are made in the USA are identical, as in made on the same machinery - according to Personna. I can tell no difference in any currently produced Personna blades. Some have an oily coating (barber blades) and some go through a sterilization wash (HU) but other than that the only difference is the price and the packaging.

I find that just about all blades perform well for me. I bounce around with a different brand of blade every day and if I did not look at the silk screening on the blade I would not know what I was shaving with. It is awful being able to get a perfect shave with anything I touch

Yeah, you sound pretty broken up over it, LOL.

Be careful over there. There are some knock-offs of good blades being sold there.

knock off personna's?? i had not heard about that before. have there been identified knock off's of the labs yet?

thats who i have been buying them from no issues yet he is a little slow to ship them but they seem like the real thing and box looks legit. i know about the fake ir's and rubies but have not heard about fake labs

Most recently, I saw some vendors selling Personna "Reds" at really low prices by the hundreds. When you look at the blades closely, you can see some difference in the brand stampings, and I read some posts here from people saying that they'd gotten some "bad" Reds at Fleabay. There are some reliable vendors there, and some that aren't. Buyer beware, especially when the price looks almost to good to be true.
I don't buy Labs, so I can't speak to that question, but I think the principle would apply. Some of the vendors here, sell there also, just a suggestion. I also remind myself once in awhile, that if you buy by the hundred, even the best blades are a cheap shave.

Are The personnas being discussed in this thread anything like the ones wally world carries online? If so I'd go with GSB's..I ordered a few packs from walmart and got the worst shave ever.. Gave a pack to my cousin and he said the same thing too.. Recently I tried them again after using Gillette blacks and I couldn't even finish the shave so in the garbage the persona blades.. I was hoping the Personnas would have worked out since they were made in the USA but no luck.

I only buy Personna Red Packs and Med Preps, and there are threads on this forum on both so you can find out all you want about them. I don't trust WallyWorld any more than I do FleaBay. Check out razorbladesandmore.com for good prices on Reds.

I really like the GSB and the Personna Labs - very close or identical to the Meds. I rate the GSB and the Lab as neck-and-neck, appropriate phrase for razor blades that are very similar. The only problem with the GSB's is their Russian origin. I'm awfully conflicted. I grew up during the worst of the Cold War and liking a Russian anything seems like treason, vodka included.

I find the GSB to be very, very sharp and smooth. I find the Personna Meds to be very, very smooth and sharp. Both very good blades.
