Gillette Rocket Problems

I bought a Gillette Rocket in outstanding condition, but there must be some sticky gunk inside the razor, since it doesn't spin as freely as it should. After soaking in hot water/dish soap. the knob spins freely, but tightens again later. Same thing with a Simple Green soak. I bought a good ultrasonic cleaner to try, which works the best so far. Immediately after an ultrasound tankful of dishwashing liquid, it spins great. As the water dries it tightens up a little. I'm waiting to see what happens when I do another ultrasonic treatment with a true ultrasonic solution (Hagerty). Thoughts?

Yes its true that a lot of British made razor have this problem.
On the otherside one of my HD rocket is the smoothest mechanism i have ever found in a razor. Like someone said in a previous thread, it feels almost Hydraulic.

If the rocket you have is the aluminium handled version don't boil it or steep it in Barbicide or similar for any length of time or the handle will go black.

For your problem, ultrasonic clean the razor then lubricate with Olive Oil - much kinder on the skin than mineral oil so you can give it a good old soak in the oil and it'll even do your skin good if left on the razor :)

This won't work for the rocket but for Superspeeds, Fatboys, Adjustables etc, I pour olive oil into the recess at the end of the handle then blow it into the workings of the razor - it works wonders. Don't try this with mineral oil though.

I have an Aristo Jr - one of my favorite shavers - with the same problem.

I've tried almost everything (not ultrasound, though...) - hot soapy water soak seems to be best for loosening it somewhat.

no-no to oil, I think - (more gunk!)

I have another, cherry Aristo Jr - used once, maybe - that has the smoothest mechanism in the world.

Go figger.
