Gillette NEW alternative?

Is there an alternative to the Gillette NEW?

Looking for something ideal for head shaving. Hearing something about a "safety bar"?

A safety bar is what newer gillettes have in place of a comb guard. It's a solid piece. For a 3 piece razor, the techs have them. All of their 40's and onward twist to open razors have them too. I know nothing of head shaving so I'll leave that to others.

Not sure why you want an alternative? I use a Bull Mastiff with a "new" head. I use it to shave my face/head virtually everyday with great results. If a "new" is what you have, then by all means use it!

I don't have a DE head shaver. People have recommended the Gillette NEW, but I'm having difficult finding a new one, or a used one in excellent condition. I don't see Gillette NEW being sold in the stores.

if you want to find a gillette new in stores, you gotta hit up the antique malls.

alternatively, post here in the wanted to buy section, and i'm sure you'll get some hits.

Gillette New's haven't been sold in stores in 70 years. But if you want a nice one that looks like new with a custom handle get ahold of CooncatBob. He collects the old heads, replates them, makes fancy new handles and sells them. And yes he shaves his head with them as well.

Oops....sorry, I didn't realize you were looking for one. As a previous poster stated, check BST or post in WTB. Alternatively check the 'bay....it's a snakepit, but there are usually a few "news" listed. Often they are simply under safety razors....in other words using "new style" in the search can be counter productive. If you can't find an excellent example, don't be afraid to try a rougher looking one as long as the teeth aren't bent too bad. If you don't mind spending a little more, the Bull Mastiff by Cooncat Bob is highly highly recommended. And you can get it with a "new" or "old" style head! Either are good shavers and it is a beautiful razor...I love mine!
