Gillette Flare Tip (rust? cleaning

Hi, so i picked up a flare tip a few weeks ago which im currently using. I gave it the usual cleaning of soaked in just boiled water (with dish soap). Then Scrubbing Bubbles. Then toothbrush with dish soap. Followed by a wipe down with rubbing alcohol and then another scrub with toothbrush and dish soap.

The problem is i have a tiny spot of what looks like rust/corrosion? How do i clean that up?

Thanks very much. $Flare-Tip01.jpg

The nickel plating will not rust, so if it is truely rust, it's from a blade that has been sitting in it for a while or the plating is gone in that spot. A light polish with MAAS or Flitz is what I use..... but I keep it very light. Too much polishing with those polishes will take the plating off. Chances are, the plating might already be comprimised on that spot and the best you might be able to do is remove the rust and shine it up, but the brass underneth the plating will show. At least that's not a very obvious spot though. If it's rust from a blade, the MAAS or Flitz should take it right off and make it nice and shiney.

That looks like some of the brass showing through the plating . Besides getting it re plated , really nothing to do , but it will not affect shaving with it at all..

I don't know that you can. You might go to the hardware store and see what's available. I see rust as a cancer that is maybe incurable.

Maas or Flitz will remove rust. You can get rid of the rust easy enough.... it's just that the plating is most likely gone so the brass will show. There are other polishes too that will remove the rust, but again, they are abrasive and will remove the plating too. Maas and Flitz are abrasive as well, but are much more mild compared to some other polishes.
